How good will David Ash be this season?  Well, let’s just say he has the potential to be good.  This notion was solidified by the AllState Sugar Bowl judges committee which named the Texas quarterback to the Manning Award watch list on Friday.  The award is given to the best collegiate quarterback and begins with 30 names on its preseason watch list.  The final votes for the award, named after Ole Miss quarterback Archie Manning and his sons Peyton and Eli, will include quarterback performance in postseason bowl games.

The list will be pared down to 10 names on November 27th and the winner will be announced on January 8th.

The last three Heisman Trophy winners have won the Manning Award (Cam Newton – 2010, Robert Griffin III – 2011, Johnny Manziel – 2012).  Texas quarterback Vince Young won the award in 2006.
