Welcome back to another edition of the Outsiders Edge, the place to chat Longhorns and life in general. Lets get down to business.

UFC 162: I fell for Anderson Silva’s ignorance, and the more I consider what he cost the sport, the bigger the stain on his legacy grows.

Silva made the Middleweight title look like crap, and robbed us of a great spectacle at Jerry World next year. Had Silva won at UFC 162, and Jones at UFC 165, we’d have seen Cowboys Stadium host the fight of the century between him and Jon Jones. If you didn’t want to fight for belts anymore, just drop the damn title and move on. What could have been a golden moment in MMA history turned into a black eye.

Dwight Howard: Houston struck gold getting  Howard out of Los Angeles and into a Rockets uniform. I really thought the Lake Show had the inside track to keep D12 with all the money and extras they could throw at him, but clearly he felt playing with James Hardin, in a State with no income tax, and a group of younger guys was the right play. The clowns in LA burning his jerseys and hoping he gets the clap are a bunch of low class morons. The people, if anyone, who should shoulder the blame are Jerry Buss and Kobe Bryant. You can’t win a championship in LA with that crap roster they have going. The coaching sucks, the star player is old and coming off a severe injury, and Steve Nash is like 85 years old.

Former OU Sooner Blake Griffin Talks Tough: Blake wants ALL of you to know he isn’t soft, and he is willing to prove it to you “off the court”. Who gives a crap if you want to pick back alley fights….your own teammates think you’re a roll of Charmin.

Which Reminds me: OU Sucks.

Greatest Rivalry in CFB: Has to be Ohio State/Michigan. 12 year old Grant Reed, a die hard Buckeye, was diagnosed with brain cancer, which he chose to name Michigan because he was going to beat it. He endured 16 1/2 hours of surgery, rounds of chemo, and grueling therapy after the surgery robbed him of the use of his left side, vision, and speech. The young Buck has, by doctors accounts, now beaten Michigan and is on his way to getting his life back. It’s things like that that make Buckeyes/Wolverines the greatest in my mind. You don’t get this quality level of hate anywhere else, and congrats to that kid for asserting his dominance and getting his life back.

NFL Arrests: With Broncos executives Tom Heckert and Matt Russell being hooked and booked for drunk driving, the cycle of professional football folks going to jail this off season is in high gear. The rookie symposium was a great idea, and I’m thinking maybe the league needs some kind of exit meeting with the players each year like this. Granted, its two exes and about 1% of current NFL signed players who hit the clink, but bad press is still bad press.

Lions signed Matt Stafford to extension: $41.5 million in new guarenteed money when he still had 2 years left on his rookie contract. He had a great 2011 season, in which he threw half his career touchdowns, but regressed to a marginal QB last year, one who crapped the bed the last half of the year. I’d have rolled the dice and waited out this season before giving him money.

Connor Brewer Transferring: No surprise here, as the gunslinger from Arizona wasn’t going to play a snap at Texas. Too many good prospects, no Harsin, and a chance in offense signaled the end. I applaud him for competing in the spring and applaud Mack Brown for granting him an unconditional release. Brewer is going to make a Pac12 team one hell of a QB and I wish him the best of luck back home.

Till next week – Hook EM!
