It looks like the Longhorns might close up shop on their 2014 wide receiver group of athletes as 4-star standout, Dorian Leonard committed to Texas today per Longview head coach John King.

Leonard becomes commit No. 16 and held offers from schools like Florida State, Oregon State, and Texas Tech but ultimately, it came down to Texas and Oklahoma. And Mack won this one.

Leonard noticed the growth of the 2014 classes in both Austin (16)  and Norman (8) and felt like UT had ‘a little more to offer’.

Leonard had a great junior season for the Lobos in football and basketball, helping lead Longview to the 5A D-II regional semifinals in football, grabbing 21 catches for 444 yards and four touchdowns. He also helped the hoops squad to the bi-district playoffs.

Leonard continues a pipeline to Austin, joining former Lobos-turned-Longhorns, Lee Jackson, Vondrell McGee and Terrence Young.

I watched Leonard perform at the Texas Tech football camp Wednesday in Longview. He’s big (6-foot-4, 219 lbs), strong, and can really move after the catch. He reminds me of former Longview and OU-WR Malcolm Kelly.
