It was announced Tuesday evening during a media gathering that sophmore running back Malcolm Brown will not play on Saturday when the #11 Longhorns play #8 West Virginia in Austin.  Brown injured an ankle last Saturday in Stillwater and did not play in the second half against the Cowboys.  He was averaging 6 .1 yards per carry and rushed for 3 touchdowns during the first 4 games of the season.  While Brown’s absence will be missed on Saturday, true freshman tailback Johnathan Gray will have an opportunity to fill the void.  Gray saw more playing time against Oklahoma State last Saturday and produced his best game as a Longhorn, rushing for 68 yards on 12 carries.  Bergeron, a proven commodity in the Texas backfield, recently recovered from a shoulder injury sustained in the Ole Miss game.  The shoulder seems to be fully healed which is good news because Texas cannot afford to have both Brown and Bergeron sidelined at the same time.  It is unclear when Malcolm Brown will return to the field but hopefully the ankle is at or close to 100% for the showdown with the Sooners in the Red River Rivalry on October 13th in Dallas.
