The Texas football team got some news today, reported by Eric Nahlin of Inside Texas, that the Longhorns would be adding a defensive end to the team in the form of former University of Houston player Zeke Riser.

Riser graduated from the University of Houston last fall and was with the Cougar team for four years, but only played three due to a torn ACL sustained during his sophmore season.  The 6’4, 255 lb. defensive end has one year of eligibility remaining and it appears the lone year will be spent wearing a burnt orange uniform, contributing to a defense that had its share of struggles last season.

Riser is expected to land on the 40 Acres as a preferred walk-on after starting in all but 3 games for the Cougars last season.  He’s a graduate of LaVernia High School (part of the Greater San Antonio Metropolitan Area) which means the move to Austin will place him closer to home.  This was reportedly a factor in Riser’s interest in playing his senior season for Mack Brown and the Longhorns.

No official comment/announcement from the University’s Athletic Department yet but expect that to come as soon as Riser enrolls in classes at UT this summer.  He is currently pursuing graduate studies at The University of Houston.
