AUSTIN — Â The Sam Houston State Bearkats came into UFCU Disch Falk Field, and snapped a personal 11-game losing streak to the Longhorns after beating Texas 5-3 during a mid-week contest with the neighbors from Huntsville.
Sam Houston’s (4-4) Tyler Eppler (1-0) got the win, going 5 2/3 innings, limiting UT to two runs,on four hits.
No. 22 Texas (6-2) trailed, 3-0, Â highlighted by a Spencer Rahm solo blast in the top of the fourth.
Matt Moynihan and Taylor Stell knocked in runs in the bottom of the sixth, and Mark Payton continued his torrid start, going 3-for-4, with a run-scoring triple in the eighth, but that was Texas’ last gasp. Payton is now hitting .536, with 11 RBI’s through eight games this season.
Bearkats reliever Jason Simms picked up his first save of the season, nailing down the final four outs.
Texas starter Cameron Cox took the loss (0-1), going 5 2/3 innings, surrendering three runs, on three hits.
Texas heads to Palo Alto this weekend for a three-game set with No. 15 Stanford.
