Just when you thought the chatter regarding the Texas – Texas A&M rivalry was gone…..  along comes House Bill 778, filed  on Monday January 28th by District 31 Representative Ryan Guillen.  Guillen, a Democrat from Rio Grande City, happens to be a Texas A&M graduate and apparently has difficulty with the two long-time rivals taking a hiatus from the annual gridiron matchup.  This particular piece of legislation would force both schools to schedule an annual nonconference game against one another, not by will, but by law.

What happens if this bill does become law?  Well, the schools would be mandated to begin play in the 2014-2015 academic school year.

What happens if either school refuses?  It appears athletic scholarships are in jeopardy.  ALL of them.  Read the language and tell me I’m not seeing things.

Representative Guillen has a 10+ year in the Texas House of Representatives and filed and passed more bills than any other representative during the last legislative session.  Ironic enough he passed a bill related to government efficiency.  This does not seem like an efficient use of time by Representative Guillen.

Our analysis:  this has no chance in hell of passing.  The Aggies in the capitol halls are holding their heads a little higher these days but that will inevitably be short lived.  Hopefully.
