After getting pummeled in Waco on Friday night by the score of 16-5 then taking the show back to The Disch on Saturday where they lost 4-0, the Longhorns ended the regular season in style – with a win.  Although they lost the series to a very good Baylor baseball team, Texas finished with an overall record of 30-20 and a conference record of 14-10.  Not too shabby for a team that was hit by a rash of injuries and other circumstances (cough, cough).  While they pulled of the win today it was by no means an easy task.   Texas right fielder Mark Payton scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning on an Eric Weiss single.  Things were quiet until the top of the 5th when Baylor’s Nathan Orf scored on Logan Vick’s sacrifice fly to right field with two outs.  Longhorn pitcher John Curtiss was relieved at this time by Hoby Milner who ended the inning on a Cal Towey fly out to left field.

Texas finally scored the go ahead run on a wild pitch in the 8th to beat Baylor by the score of 2-1.  Coach Garrido’s Longhorns will head to Oklahoma City next week for the Big XII tournament as the #3 seed.  Baylor finishes in first place and Texas A&M will head to the tournament as the #2 seed.  The Longhorns will need to win a few games to feel comfortable about their place in a Regional which will most likely be in Houston (Rice) or Baton Rouge (LSU).
