The No. 8 Texas women’s basketball team travels to Lubbock to face the Texas Tech Red Raiders tonight.
Texas Tech enters the game with an 11-15 overall record and a 2-13 record in Big 12 play. The Red Raiders’ conference wins are against Iowa State and Kansas.
The Longhorns own a 24-2 overall record and a 13-2 conference record. Texas’ losses include Baylor and Oklahoma. The Longhorns stand at No. 2 in the Big 12 conference, behind Baylor.
Texas’ scoring offense, averaging 72 points per game, ranks third in the Big 12. Texas Tech sits at ninth with only 10 teams in the conference. The Red Raiders average 63 points per game.
The Longhorns’ senior center Imani Boyette leads the team in scoring with 12.3 points per game. That average places her 12th for the Big 12 conference. Sophomore guard Brooke McCarty is gaining ground on Boyette for Texas leading scorer. McCarty averages 11.9 points per game, putting her in 13th for the conference. Against West Virginia, the Longhorns’ previous opponent, McCarty scored a game-high 18 points. Over Texas’ last five games, McCarty is averaging 14.4 points.
Texas Tech’s leading scorer is redshirt junior guard Ivonne CookTaylor. She averages 13.8 points per game, putting her in ninth for the conference in scoring. Freshman guard Japreece Dean comes in second for the Red Raiders with 11.3 points per game. That places her in 16th for the conference.
The Longhorns faced the Red Raiders on Jan. 2, and Texas won 86-62. Boyette led the game in scoring with 24 points. Dean scored 21 points, leading Texas Tech.
Tonight’s game marks the 96th meeting between the two schools. Texas has won the previous five contests and owns the overall record at 66-29.
