Texas football continued its strong showing at the 2025 NFL Draft, with three more Longhorns hearing their names called on Day Two.
Defensive tackle Alfred Collins was the first off the board, selected No. 43 overall by the San Francisco 49ers. A dominant force in the trenches, Collins earned Second Team All-American honors last season after posting a standout career at Texas. Over four seasons, he recorded 139 tackles and 17.5 tackles for loss. Known for his ability to disrupt passing lanes, Collins broke up seven passes during his senior campaign, an impressive number for an interior lineman. He adds size, athleticism, and playmaking ability to a 49ers defensive front that already ranks among the league’s best.
Later in the second round, the Philadelphia Eagles made a move to strengthen their secondary, selecting safety Andrew Mukuba with the final pick of the round at No. 64 overall. Mukuba was a four-year starter at Clemson and Texas, finishing his collegiate career with 193 tackles, six interceptions, and 18 pass breakups. He enjoyed a career-best season last fall for the Longhorns, recording five interceptions while showing off his versatility in coverage and as a tackler. Mukuba turned heads at the NFL Combine by running a 4.45 in the 40-yard dash, confirming his ability to cover ground quickly. His skill set allows him to line up at deep safety, in the box, or at nickel, providing the Eagles with a flexible and reliable defender in the secondary.
The Longhorns’ run continued into the third round when defensive tackle Vernon Broughton was picked by the New Orleans Saints at No. 71 overall. Broughton, is a 6-foot-5 and 311 pound force in the interior defense, had a strong senior season, tallying 39 tackles, four sacks, and leading the SEC with three fumble recoveries. Over his career, he recorded 69 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, seven sacks, and two forced fumbles. One of his best performances came in a 17-7 win over Texas A&M, where he posted two sacks and a fumble recovery. His blend of size, strength, and knack for creating turnovers makes him a valuable addition to a Saints defense looking to fortify its interior line.
With Collins, Mukuba, and Broughton all coming off the board on Day Two, Texas continues to cement its reputation for producing high-level NFL talent. All three will look to make early impacts with their new teams as they begin the next chapters of their football careers.
