This week Texas Volleyball moved into the No. 3 slot of the AVCA rankings – the highest ranking for the reigning National Champions since the beginning of the season. If their Big 12 Conference winning streak (13-0) is maintained, it will benefit the Longhorn’s tournament seed and potential as a host site with the first rounds scheduled to begin end of the month.
With five matches left, Texas visits Manhattan, Kansas, to face Kansas State (13-10 overall, 7-7 Conference) Wednesday. Most recently the Wildcats had their first ever sweep of a Top Ten team in back-to-back matches versus #8 BYU earning the Big 12 Conferences Offensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week awards for outside hitters Aliya Carter and Aniya Clinton, respectively. However, following those first-time achievements, the program was subsequently defeated by #14 Kansas twice last week. Setting the stage for redemption and validation at home over top ranked Texas.
Last week, #3 Texas swept West Virginia in both matches hosted in Morgantown, continuing their Conference dominance. The two matches displayed some of the program’s most efficient hitting (0.359 and 0.330) and successful service game (nine and seven aces) from the perennial powerhouse this season. Wednesday’s 6:30PM match will be on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.
