University of Texas senior defensive back Jahdae Barron was named a semifinalist for the Jim Thorpe Award, which recognizes college football’s top defensive back. Barron’s 42 tackles (21 solo) and 4.5 tackles for loss were key contributions to the Longhorns’ defensive efforts that resulted in them winning seven of eight games played this season. Barron also has one interception, a fumble recovery and three pass breakups.
Historically, the Longhorns have had two Thorpe Award winners in Michael Huff (2005) and Aaron Ross (2006). Texas has had three other players named as finalists (Quentin Jammer, Earl Thomas and DeShon Elliott).
The Thorpe Award, named for legendary athlete Jim Thorpe, will announce this year’s three finalists on November 28th before recognizing the winner on December 7 during The Home Depot College Football Awards.
