http://www.bevoball.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/texas_isu.jpgOn a night in which Texas players and fans wanted redemption for last year’s loss to Iowa State in Austin, the Longhorns played well enough to ensure a 37-14 win over the Cyclones in Ames, Iowa. Thanks to 3 turnovers from Iowa State and a blocked punt for a touchdown, Texas managed to keep a 34-0 halftime lead and turn it into a win.
While Texas played impeccable football during the first half, the Longhorns did struggle a bit to put up points in the second half. A Justin Tucker field goal added three points to the existing Texas lead – these were the only points score by Texas in the second half. Tenacious defense and penalties on Iowa State played in favor of Texas. Steele Jantz was hurried all night by the Manny Diaz defense, which got the job done and gave up only two touchdowns.
Most impressive to me was the play of David Ash, who demonstrated his lightning quick release as he threw for two touchdowns. The quarterback rotation of McCoy and Ash really seems to work for Texas – especially with the schemes Harsin and Applewhite throw out.
Texas remains unbeaten at 4-0 and plays rival Oklahoma in Dallas next weekend in the Red River Shootout.
