Steve Sarkisian and the top-ranked Texas Longhorns will play the Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday with the services of starting quarterback Quinn Ewers. Sarkisian announced Ewers’ return to the field on his regular Thursday ZOOM meeting with members of the media.
Ewers, who sustained an oblique injury in the Longhorns’ win over UTSA, was upgraded to probable on Wednesday’s SEC injury report. He missed games against UL Monroe and Mississippi State this season, both of which Texas won with backup quarterback Arch Manning.
Ewers has missed time due to injury in each of the three seasons he has played at Texas. In 2022 he left the Alabama game after a hard hit by linebacker Dallas Turner. He would subsequently miss three games before returning making his return in the Oklahoma game and leading the the Longhorns to a 49-0 victory. Last season Ewers left the Houston game with an injury before being replaced by Maalik Murphy. He returned two games later to lead the Longhorns to a 29-26 come-from-behind victory over TCU in Fort Worth.
When asked if he thought Ewers was injury prone, Sarkisian had this to say:
“I don’t know many guys who would have survived that hit from Dallas Turner two years ago. Oddly enough, I’m watching the Saints the other day, and Derek Carr goes out with the same oblique injury.”
Texas and Oklahoma will kickoff at 2:30 PM on Saturday at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas with the game airing on ABC.
