No. 2 Texas baseball achieved a decisive 16-4 victory over Incarnate Word at UFCU Disch-Falk Field on Tuesday night, scoring in five of the six innings and improving their season record to 27-5, marking their eighth run-rule win this year.
In both the second and third innings, the Longhorns showcased their offensive prowess by sending their lineup around, tallying six runs in each inning while gathering seven hits collectively. All nine starting players successfully reached base during the game, with Ethan Mendoza, Carson Tinney, and Temo Becerra contributing multi-hit efforts.
Carson Tinney, a junior catcher recognized on the Buster Posey Award watch list, had an impressive performance going 2-for-2 with four runs scored and two walks. He hit his 11th home run of the season, tied for the team lead, in the fifth inning. The 431-foot shot cleared the wall in center field and marked his fourth homer in his last ten at-bats.
Ethan Mendoza also made his mark with a career-high eighth home run of the season, hitting a 388-foot drive over the YETI Yard in the sixth inning.
On the pitching side, Texas utilized five pitchers throughout the seven-inning game. Kade Bing started before Hudson Hamilton took over and secured his first win of the season after throwing 1⅔ scoreless innings and striking out three out of seven batters faced. Ethan Walker, Max Grubbs, and Brody Walls collectively retired seven of the last eight Cardinals to finish off the contest.
With this loss, Incarnate Word’s record falls to 16-17 for the season.
Texas will be back in action on Friday as they head to College Station to take on No. 18 Texas A&M in Game 1 of the Cotton Holdings Lone Star Showdown at Blue Bell Park. The first pitch is set for 7:00 p.m.
