Preview: No. 19 Texas Longhorns to take on LSU Tigers in Halal Guys College Basketball Showcase in Houston

Texas Basketball to play in 2026 Rady Children’s Invitational

The No. 19 Texas Longhorns (7-2, 0-0 Big 12) and LSU Tigers (6-4, 0-0 SEC) will meet on the hardwood on Saturday at Toyota Center in Houston in the first game of the Halal Guys Showcase. This will mark the 32nd meeting between the two with LSU holding a 20-11 all-time record in the series. The last time the ‘Horns and Tigers met was in 2020 with LSU winning 69-67.

Following their 86-65 road loss to Marquette on December 6th, Texas responded with a 77-50 victory over Houston Christian University last Saturday which included a season high 13 steals and 16 forced turnovers.

LSU lost 75-60 to Kansas State on December 9th at home and rebounded with a 74-56 win over Alabama State in their last game.

Names to watch on the LSU side are forward Jalen Reed, point guard Mike Williams III, guard Jordan Wright and guard Trae Hannibal – all reached double-digits in scoring in the Alabama State win. The Tigers average 73 points per game and shoot 46.5% from the floor.

Guard Max Abmus leads the Longhorns in scoring with 17.6 points per game with forward Kadin Shedrick, forward Dillon Mitchell and guard Tyrese Hunter all averaging double digits in scoring as well. The Longhorns average 79 points per game and are shooting 48.9% from the floor.

Tipoff between the two teams will take place at 11:00 AM and will be televised on ESPN2.

No. 4 Houston and Texas A&M will meet in Game 2 at 1:30 pm following the Texas vs. LSU game.
