We would be lying if we said that the commitment of DeMarcus Holland to the Texas basketball program was no surprise. The Naamon Forest High School (Garland, TX) guard gave his verbal pledge today to join the Longhorn basketball team and fellow high school teammate Prince Ibeh this season in Austin. Honestly there is not a ton of information out on Holland but our basketball insiders tell us he is a long kid with a lot of athleticism and a ton of upside. He was regarded as a 3-star prospect by most recruiting sources and fills a void left by Longhorn guard J’Covan Brown, who announced last week he would leave Texas to enter the upcoming NBA Draft. Holland averaged 11.3 points per game last season at Naamon Forest and took his first official visit to Austin this weekend. Holland had originally committed to play at the University of South Florida and eventually decommitted to the Bulls’ program in late February. Like most, we were assuming De Kalb’s Devonta Pollard would be the next official commit (Pollard is reportedly set to announce his school on Tuesday) followed by potential Tulsa transfer Jordan Clarkson. The basketball scholarships are all but gone for Rick Barnes but a commitment from Pollard would wrap this class up nicely.
