Today is Memorial Day.

It’s our country’s way of remembering the thousands of men and women who have served and died for this nation.

So, we at Horn Sports would like to say Thank You to all the wonderful people in our nation’s military.

Don’t forget, the Longhorns home field is named Darrell K Royal- Texas Memorial Stadium for a reason.

Coach Royal allowed the addition of his name to be put on the stadium moniker in 1996. Royal, a member of the US Army Air Corps himself, wanted to make sure all the veteran’s from conflicts past were remembered and honored.

Guys like Louis Jordan and Pete Edmond come to mind.

Jordan, from the Hill country, was a captain on the Longhorns’ football team. He was killed in France, and has a flagpole in his home town of Frederickburg and near the stadium on campus at the Frank Denius Plaza.

Edmond was the model student-athlete at Texas and died on October 11, 1918 in the Argonne Forest, in one of the bloodiest campaigns in the history of American warfare.

Currently, Texas’ own Nate Boyer is serving in the Middle East with the U.S. Special Forces. He has been the face of the Caring for Camo’s foundation.

Today, we remember and appreciate all of them.

In recruiting news, the top wide receiver in Texas, Mt. Pleasant’s KD Cannon, released his Top 12 college choices. And of course, Texas is on that list.

If I were a betting man, I would say it’ll come down to Baylor, Texas Tech, and Oklahoma. When in doubt of a WR’s prospective location, follow the quarterback. Texas Tech has Whitehouse’s Patrick Mahomes. Baylor has yet to grab a commitment from a 2014 QB, and the Sooners’ have Justice Hansen. Advantage: OU.
