On Sunday, the Texas Longhorn baseball team picked up where they left off after Game 2. After failing to score in fifteen innings on Saturday, it was too little, too late on Sunday as the Horns only managed two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning, falling to Nebraska 6-2.
Over the course of three games, the Huskers were dominant on the mound and defensively, while being effective in spots on offense. The mix proved to be way too much for Texas, as the Longhorns only managed to score three runs over 33 innings on the weekend.
In Game 3, the Huskers jumped on starting pitcher Chad Hollingsworth for two runs in the bottom of the first frame. With momentum firmly in their dugout, the Huskers scored four more runs in the home half of the third inning.
Chad Hollingsworth surrendered all six Nebraska runs, although one came after he left the game when Travis Duke allowed an inherited runner to score. Josh Sawyer, and Jon Malmin were effective in relief, combining for 4.2 scoreless frames on five hits and only one walk.
Collin Shaw’s two-run homerun over the right field fence was the lone bright spot for the Texas offense. Husker hurlers struck out six different batters, giving Nebraska a total of 33 punch-outs over the weekend.
