The Texas Longhorns earned their first-ever College Football Playoff victory on Saturday night, defeating Atlantic Coast Champion Clemson 38-24. Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns’ win was their 12th of the season, propelling them into the College Football Quarterfinal at the Peach Bowl, where they will play Big 12 Champion Arizona State.
Texas will head back to Atlanta for the January 1st noon matchup, which will serve as their first-ever Peach Bowl appearance in program history. The Sun Devils have a lone appearance in the Peach Bowl, back in 1970, where they defeated North Carolina 48-26.
The Horns and Devils met just once before, in the 2007 Holiday Bowl, when the Longhorns left Qualcomm Stadium with a 52-34 win. Jamaal Charles rushed for 161 yards and two touchdowns. Texas quarterback Colt McCoy and linebacker Brian Orakpo earned offensive and defensive MVP’s, respectively, in the game.
Should the Longhorns defeat Arizona State, they would be the only program to have won all New Year’s Six bowl games.
Kickoff comes at noon on Wednesday, January 1 from Mercedes-Benz Stadium and will be televised on ESPN.
