http://www.bevoball.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/buut.jpgIf you are a Baylor fan this one was right out of a fairy tale. Playing at home against a team that has traditionally beaten you year-in and year-out, with a Heisman Trophy candidate quarterback with the nickname “RG3,” things couldn’t get much better in Waco. Robert Griffin III has received national attention for his phenomenal year at the quarterback position and for leading the Baylor Bears to a now 9-3 season which includes wins over Big XII opponents Oklahoma and Texas. Griffin has managed to launch Baylor on the national scene under 4th year head coach Art Briles.
As far as the game was concerened, the Bears jumped out to an early 14-0 lead after a 59 yard RG3 pass to Kendall Wright and a 20 yard touchdown run by Baylor’s Terrance Ganaway. Texas and Case McCoy fired back before the end of the first quarter with a 2 yard touchdown pass to Blaine Irby. Texas would add 2 more touchdowns on passes from Case McCoy to Luke Poehlmann (3 yards) and Marquise Goodwin (80 yards).   Baylor added two field goals before the half expired which saw Baylor take a 24-21 lead into the half.
In the second half Baylor capitalized on Case McCoy’s 4 interceptions and Robert Griffin consistently drove his team down field. Griffin added a pair of rushing touchdowns to his Heisman resume as well as Baylor beat Texas for the second consecutive year by the score of 48-24. The Longhorns did not help themselves out with penalties either, as they were penalized for more than 100 yards in the game.
For Baylor it culminates a highly successful 9-3 season in which the Bears are more than likely headed to an early January Bowl Game. If Griffin decides to come back for his 5th year, then Baylor is in excellent position to repeat this successful season. For Texas it marks a season plagued by quarterback controversy and injuries that leave the team without a solid starter at qb for next season. The Longhorns are headed to whatever bowl a 7-5 Big XII team is eligible for, hoping for a healthy return from Malcolm Brown and Joe Bergeron. It would be nice to cap the season off with a win in a bowl games and 8 wins on the season.
