No. 6 Texas secured its 39th appearance in the Men’s College World Series with a narrow 6-5 win over No. 11 Oregon on Sunday night at UFCU Disch-Falk Field, capturing the NCAA Austin Super Regional.
In the eighth inning, Adrian Rodriguez made a pivotal play by hitting a two-run double that allowed the Longhorns to regain the lead. Sam Cozart then effectively sealed the victory by retiring the last six Oregon batters, marking Texas’ first return to Omaha since 2022.
This victory elevates Texas’ season record to 45-13 and represents another achievement for head coach Jim Schlossnagle, who has now become one of only four coaches in college baseball history to lead three different programs – TCU, Texas A&M, and Texas – to the College World Series. Schlossnagle has reached Omaha eight times within the last 16 seasons, including seven appearances since 2014, which is more than any other program during that period.
The Longhorns took an early lead thanks to standout transfers. Aiden Robbins kicked off the game with his 24th home run of the season, tying Kody Clemens (2018) for third-most in a single season in the program’s history. Shortly after, Carson Tinney added a significant blow with a 418-foot homer to right-center field, giving Texas a swift 2-0 advantage; Tinney’s blast was recorded at an impressive speed of 110 mph.
In the second inning, Texas increased its lead to 4-0 due to two-out RBIs from both Robbins and Tinney. However, Oregon mounted a comeback with five consecutive runs to take a 5-4 lead heading into the seventh inning.
Rodriguez excelled throughout this two-game series with a .500 batting average and seven RBIs and came through when it mattered most in the eighth inning to shift momentum back toward Texas. Cozart and the bullpen maintained control thereafter, yielding just one baserunner over the final 3⅓ innings.
Thomas Burns (2-0) claimed the win after successfully navigating a high-pressure relief situation where he struck out two batters while facing the go-ahead runner just 90 feet away. The loss fell to Oregon closer Devin Bell (2-7), who allowed four of eight batters to reach base during his outing, including Rodriguez’s critical hit.
Texas concluded its home schedule for 2026 with an impressive record of 34-4, marking the team’s highest victory total in Austin since 2011.
The Longhorns are set to begin their College World Series journey against No. 3 Georgia, with their first pitch anticipated for Friday or Saturday in Omaha as they aim for their seventh national championship.
