According to reports, University of Texas sophmore pitcher John Curtiss will miss the entire 2013 baseball season due to an injury to his elbow which required Tommy John surgery. Curtiss most likely injured the elbow during the Kansas game of the Big XII tournament in which he had to take himself out of the game two-thirds of the way through the seventh inning.  The prognosis after the injury was that it was a sprain and not as serious as initially thought, but that was almost three months ago. It appears the elbow injury was in fact significant. Next season will mark the second consecutive year the Longhorn baseball team will be without a member of the starting rotation. Prior to the 2012 season the Longhorns lost pitching staff Ace and New York Yankee 2nd round draft pick Sam Stafford to a shoulder injury which required surgery.
Curtiss appeared in 28 games for the Longhorns last season, 4 of them as the starter, and finished the season with a 3.50 ERA in 64 1/3 innings pitched.
