The Texas women’s basketball team travels to Ames, Iowa, to face the Cyclones on Saturday.
The Longhorns are coming off their first break during Big 12 play, having yet to play this week.
The last time Texas took the court was Jan. 30, and the Longhorns beat Kansas State 66-51, marking their 20th win of the season. Sophomore guard Brooke McCarty scored 15 points and grabbed a Big 12 career-high seven boards. Junior Center Kelsey Lang scored 10 points, and senior center Imani Boyette grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.
Iowa State owns a 12-9 overall record and a 4-6 record in Big 12 play. The Cyclones snapped their five-game losing streak Tuesday against Kansas with a 63-53 victory. Junior guard Seanna Johnson leads Iowa State in scoring with 17 points per game, putting her second in the Big 12. She also averages 9.8 boards a game, ranking her third in the conference. Freshman guard Bridget Carleton ranks second for the Cyclones in scoring with 13.3 points per game.
No. 6 Texas owns a 20-1 overall record and a 9-1 record in Big 12 play. Boyette still leads the Longhorns in scoring and rebounding with 13.4 points per game and 10 boards. In Big 12 play, Boyette averages 15.3 points, 11.7 rebounds and 4.4 blocks a game. McCarty averages 11.3 points and a team-high 29.1 minutes. Lang brings down an average of 4.8 rebounds per game, ranking her second on the team.
The Longhorns beat the Cyclones earlier this season in Austin, 75-54. Boyette scored 11 points and grabbed 17 rebounds. McCarty made five 3-pointers, scoring 17 points. The Cyclones’ Johnson and Carleton scored 23 and 11 points, respectively.
Texas travels to Ames looking for its first win at the Hilton Coliseum since 2009. Iowa State owns the overall record between the two schools at 17-12. Tipoff on Saturday is set for 1:30 p.m. CT.
