Dennis, you're doing great! Baby steps, but you'll beat this buddy!Big day today. I graduated from Ensure to soup.
Now I gotta find out what soups have a lot of protein and are smooth and easy to sip/ear.
Get some chicken broth or stock and build your own soups. You can either roast a chicken or buy a rotisserie chicken already done, take the meat off the bone, run it through a food processor and add it to the stock for a simple soup. That ground chicken (or turkey) is a complete protein and should be easy enough to swallow. That should get you started, but you will have to take vitamin supplements. Beans will be incomplete proteins and it is tough to get all the amino acids if you go with grains or beans in a limited diet. See if you can swallow scrambled eggs. Also, hummus and pita would be good as would peanut butter sandwich on wheat bread. Gelatin is really high in protein, so if you make your own stock, simmer the hell out of the bones and the gelatin as well as marrow will have a lot of protein. Your local sushi restaurant should have miso soup. Miso soup is high in sodium, but also high in protein, especially if you get them to put extra tofu in it. Finally, find a good protein supplement to mix in smoothies or shakes or with juices.Big day today. I graduated from Ensure to soup.

You hang in their, partner. I have seen some wonderful things in my career. Things greater than science. Something, besides us, has your back. So, I got to ring the bell last Friday after 3o rounds of Radiation. I have been with family members and friends when they finished a treatment and got to do the same but I kinda have to admit, I felt a deep sense of pride ringing that little bell. This intense Radiation may have taken my vocal chords (they don't know if I'll get them back) and it may temporarily cause every swallow feel like a thousand knives are cutting at my throat but I have avoided the feeding tube and put myself in a position to let The Heavy Chemo do its job. All this by the Grace of God. By the support of y'all through your prayers. And by the prayers and love of my team of Prayer Warriors that include many of you as well as my friends and family. So I say, see, God is answering our prayers.
