Women's tennis program hires a new coach (Howard Joffe)

This is quite a hiring IMO. Joffe was killing it at Texas A&M and our women's program is a dumpster fire.

Coaches don't hate Patterson nearly as much as you apparently think. He's played a role in hiring Strong, Shaka, Joffe and O'neill. 

I get it, you don't like Patterson. It seems like you are little obsessed though because every thread you bring him up. Coaches obviously don't dislike Patterson as much as you think because he keeps making pretty good hires.

If you think the McNamara "resignation" was a one way street you really don't know as much as you think you know. McNamara didn't land a single recruit in this year's recruiting class and was a disaster on the court. Several current UT players were close to quitting the team because they disliked McNamara. If you want to criticize Patterson, criticize him for hiring McNamara. It was a bad hire but he certainly upgraded with Joffe. To criticize Patterson for how he handled McNamara is laughable, her "resignation" was what I like to call a mutual parting. It absolutely needed to happen. 

As for O'neill he's been a home run hire. I also have big expectations for Strong and Smart. Smart was arguably the most desired basketball coach on the market. 

Carry on though, your dislike for Patterson has clearly diluted any chance of rational discussion.

To think the athletes are oblivious to Charlie Strong's message of values and Steve Patterson's blatant dishonesty connected to the "fundraising" concerning the tennis center is being naive. The athletes unquestionably understand the hypocrisy that defines UT athletics under Steve Patterson.
To think no one understands the hiring of the women's tennis coach last September was at best an utter failure is also naive, and that hire was after being rejected four times. Patterson has had his failures in hiring coaches. More of his coaching hires have told him to F@#K off after ten months than have sniffed conference championships.

I'm bitching about Steve Patterson because he is the biggest problem with UT athletics. Love him if you want, embrace him if you want, but he is the problem, not the solution. I am pissed beyond words that he has cut back on the student experience to bloat the administrative budget. That is not what the UT experience is supposed to be about.

I want to see UT athletics succeed, which is why I am willing to admit the painful truth - UT has the wrong person as AD. It's that plain and simple.

Is there a bigger problem with UT athletics than the mismanagement of Steve Patterson?
Spending was out of control before Patterson cut back on the pom squad, on travel budgets and on the ability of coaches to have a freaking meal with their team to offset all the cuts by bloating the budget by hiring some 40 cronies to the tune of over $4 million/ year.

UT doesn't need an AD who outright lies to alumni about fundraising issues.

How deeply into his tenure do we need to go?

Patterson's outright dishonesty about the tennis center funding should disqualify him from any position of responsibility connected with the university. Every day he remains in his position undermines the work of Coach Strong in emphasizing the importance of personal integrity. If the alumni don't make an issue of Patterson's lack of integrity, we become hypocrites of the same degree as Patterson.

I have issues with POTUS and federal govt, but i won't bitch about them at the 4th of July parade Saturday. there's been plenty of discussion on this forum and others about Patterson's problems, real and perceived. But time and place. Hopefully, if we return the opening kickoff for a TD against ND, your first post in response won't be about Patterson.
