Why I have lost faith in Mack Brown

You don't have to know what wrong to know something is not right. I look at what is happening lately and by lately I mean the past three years to see what is wrong.

2012...Won 8 Lost 3 with one KSU left to play plus a bowl game

2011...Won 8 Lost 5

2010...Won 5 Lost 7

If you do the math that is 15 losses with possibly 2 more, over the last three years.

Looking at the previous 10 years Mack's teams won at least 10 games each year and over that span lost a total of 16 games. That's an average of 1.6 losses. Solid program and the envy of college football. No team won more games.

The amazing part is we could see Mack's last three teams lose the same amount of games it took ten years of previous teams to lose. From a 1.6 average loss of games in ten years to over 5 losses a year over the last three years.

It started with a change in philosophy. When Texas lost to Alabama, Mack made a definite move away from the spread offense to the pro offense with a strong running game. We quit recruiting spread quarterbacks and that got us David Ash and Case McCoy. We were going to be the next Alabama but someone forgot to tell Mack that Bama had some of the greatest offense and defensive lineman in the game. We tried to do it without the linemen.

There is an old adage that if it is not broke you don't fix it. Texas was not broke until Mack tried to fix it. They won a national championship and played in another so Mack got bored or whatever and by fixing it he broke it. Now recruitment is down. From the 2nd ranked recruiting class in 2011 to 3rd in 2013 they now are ranked #11 in Rivals current ranking for 2013.

I have not idea who to hire but I just know that Mack's judgement has convinced me he has lost touch with what it takes to win. It is time for a change.

Good analysis but like Horns Guy says Deloss will not fire Mack. Will Mack step down at the end of the season? Who knows. Should he? YES.

Here is the scary thing. If we beat Kansas State and a few other things happen, we could actually still receive an at-large BCS bid. By beating Kansas State we would help OU win the Big 12 title (assuming they beat TCU). More likely is Cotton for us but there are still quite a few things in play with respect to the bowl situations...

I am not saying I don't want to play Agie but going to the Cotton Bowl and losing to Agie would be a disaster. I fear with our performance and the buzz surrounding TAM we could find ourselves chasing Agie in the recruiting race. That has never happened before but these are trying times. Although no one at Texas seems to care enough to fix it.

Plus I agree with Horn Guy..Mack should and will not be fired but he should step down. I believe neither will happen and the program will continue it's slide.

Going Cotton Bowl and losing to Aggy would be devasting for Mack. Conversely beating aggy in the Cotton Bowl would mean more Mack next year.

I think Manziel winning the Heisman puts even more pressure on Mack from the fanbase. He didn't want to talk about it today in his presser - just said Johnny is a good football player.

I just listened to an ESPN bowl analyst and he said the Longhorns are going to the Cotton Bowl win or lose but not against the Aggies. Seems the Cotton Bowl has a choice of the third place from the Big 12 finisher but the Capitol One Bowl has the choice of the third place finisher in the SEC. He says no way the COB would pass on Agie. So he is thinking Texas vs LSU or Bama if they lose to Ga.

I think Texas vs. LSU is looking better and better. Aggy is at an all-time high and Cap One will almost definitely take them.

Like all great figures in sports, when their prime has passed and they don't adjust with the changes in the sport then it's time to move on. I'll always respect Mack and thank him for what he did to the program but the program needs a new mentality and direction.
