People who know me never need to ask.

6'5" and 260 lbs is a lot of ugly.

Actually my old HS Coach, Pug Galiga called his down linemen his big uglys.  That was 55 years ago, and while I have gotten a lot bigger.  The ugly part has always been there.
confirmed

back in the early 90's i was with a silicon valley based company with division here in Austin.  We had a company picnic and i was selected to head up the barbecue committee for the affair.  we decided we needed names that suggested the theme of the picnic that summer which was "roadkill grill".  that day in the newspaper there was an article about "Amarillo Slim" Preston, the legendary poker player.

I just combined the roadkill theme with that and the name stuck.  We had our own aprons with our names on them which I still have along with my special Red Adair Wild Well Control barbecue hat-- complete with personalized signature from the man, his ownself.

On a side note, we received so many kudos for the quality of the brisket that year that we were reelected to the post the next year as well.  our secret technique was to purchase about ten high quality briskets from Chester Hunt's meat market (now C. Hunt's Ice House--a name I cherish for a number of reasons, not the least of which is the silent H in the middle of it) and then take them to Rudy Mikeska's out in Taylor and have them rub them and smoke them on their grill for us, then wrap them in our own butcher paper, put them in ice chests, bring them to the picnic and put them on our own trailered grill and then claim them as our own production--which it was, sort of.

Worked like a charm until Dogmeat Horne drank too much beer and blew our cover.

I've been fond of Armadillo's ever since.  You can complain all you want about other critters--skunks, raccoons, possums, rabbits, whatever--but leave the Armadillo's alone, even if they do try to dig up your garden.

Went to UT, Name is Phil, Graduated in 06.  Pretty straightforward.

Castle Bravo is the code name of the largest thermonuclear device the US ever detonated.  I have a somewhat perverse fascination with atomic and nuclear weaponry.  If find the physics of them to be fascinating and their power beautiful in an odd way.  The "1" is there because plain ole castlebravo was already taken on a board I am a member of (the old Austin360 board).  The mushroom cloud also makes a great avatar.  Here is more info on "Castle Bravo".

Self Explanatory.....

While I was still in the USAF and being stationed  over the planet, our kids, one by one came back to Austin for College....All three graduated Summa with Masters degrees.. You don't even want to know how much that cost.....

Proud Dad..

I'm old and I don't remember. :)

Actually I started using the Capn Hook moniker after the old 360 Board went belly up.  I had three different user names on there.  I began with Pacman when I was living in Pacifica California, and when I moved I began using variations of my name, pjohnson, and something similar.  When the 360 Board cratered I went to a new board and was informed that my old name was not available, so I tried to think of something sort of catchy and came up with my present name.

I really do not remember exactly what attracted me to the name, but I have had it so long that it is now a part of my persona.  At tailgates people vary between calling me by my name, Preston or Captain.

My first name's initial, the first syllable of my last name, and the number of the jersey I wore in high school which, unfortunately, was the last time I played a down of football. "D But" was the nickname I was given in high school. And back then (before cell phones & caller id) we contacted each other with pagers. It was the norm to use your jersey number as your code so whoever you paged knew who the hell you were. And if you paged with your code only, they person knew to call back to your mama's house. LOL! Gotta love the 90's!

Primal Defense is Homeostatic® Soil Organisms which I had taken off and on since the eighties as a probiotic. When I signed up with OB in 2001, I always liked the name and it fit with a football board.

somehow, i think that i recall "pacman" upon that particular board.  i never posted, i just "trolled" at times.

Mine comes from back in my freshman year at UT. I was hanging out with a few buddies in my dorm room at a Moore-Hill between classes. We were discussing names we'd never name our kids. I said Joey. Well, that stuck for a bit as a nickname, then it morphed into joeywa because my first, last, middle name didn't fit on my UT Student ID. My middle name was shortened from Wayne to Wa, as thats all that would fit. Joey quickly became joeywa. I have friends from college still call me Joey or joeywa to this day. It's what I used on the old 360 boards, and have used it ever since.

Oddly enough, many people think it's because I live in Washington, which is merely a coincidence.

I was born, raised, and currently reside in Austin (ATX) and graduated from Texas in 1989.

Full name is Mark Strickland.  Been called Strick for ever.  Used it in my initial interweb days going back to the 360 boards as some others have mentioned.  Used it on OBs and Hornfans (both inactive), currently on IT and now Hornfans.  Happy to be here and have had the pleasure of meeting many in person.

I moved to Tyler back in 2001 and discovered soon thereafter that it was in a dry county.  I started brewing beer the next year and called my operation the Dry County Brewing Concern, or DCBC for short.

It's the name of an old jazz tune by Art Farmer and Benny Golson. Since my first name is Joe and I like the tune, it became my email name, screen name and theme song.

Cuz it's where I live.

Saw a lot of references above to the old Austin 360 message board. I lurked there often. A couple of interesting posters on there were "Beowulf" and "Today's Tom Sawyer".  I wonder what happened to those guys...are they around, do they post here under different handles now? Beowulf in particular loved telling other posters off, putting them in their place, made for interesting lurking.
