I keep hitting refresh, hoping for more recruiting news and items to read. The calm is deafening. lol

SO, lets play predict the 2017 season in the Big 12. Shall we?

1. Kansas State – I think the old man has got everything he needs to make a run. And when that situation exists, he usually makes the best of it. He may even retire after this season.

2. Oklahoma – Heisman QB candidate, decent OL, solid defense. Where's the problem? Nothing comes back at RB or WR. Its all new and unproven. Who else makes plays besides the QB? Hence, the potential problem. Texas wins the RRR.

3. Texas – Yes, that's right. What Herman does with the talent on hand will make everyone question what the heck Charlie was doing. Texas will win a game it shouldn't early in the season, and at that point, the momentum will begin.

4. Oklahoma State – No team has as much talent at QB-RB-WR in the conference like this team does. Trouble is – that OL. One OL in the 2017 class. OL assistant fired after NSD. It all starts up front and that's why I have them at 4.

5. TCU – QB shows much promise one week, then much disappointment the next. Can Kenny Hill make himself consistent? However this goes, so goes TCU.

6. Baylor – Welcome back to the middle of the pack, Baylor. So many have them picked higher. I don't see it. While the new HC will inject some positive things into the program, the recruiting pause will begin to really show its ugly head this year.

7. West Virginia – Who's afraid of Virginia Wolff? lol I don't know what it is, but disappointment seems to find Holgerson any time he's on the brink of something good. The wheels come off this year and Holgerson will do good to survive it.

8. Kansas – Go ahead, rub your eyes. The Jayhawks escape the cellar, finally. Good things are happening at KU and the fruits from their hard work begin to show. Beating Texas was a very big deal.

9. Iowa State – Despite a new HC and a decent recruiting class, the Cyclones lose almost their entire OL. Again, it all starts up front.

10. Texas Tech – I don't think Kingsbury survives the season. Awful defense will probably be worse, if thats possible. Decent QB comes in to replace Jimmy Football, but the OL is hurting and the WRs are rather average for Tech.

Yea. . ..Snyder's health a clear issue.

I think WVU is better than projected here.   I can see a case for any of your top 6 winning the conference.

If you don't think OU can reload, you aren't following their recruiting.   Till someone knocks them off (though I have no doubt we can win the RRW), I'm picking them to win it. . .  .

I would predict this finish

1. ou still best proven talent

2.Osu

3.KSU

4.Wvu although not sold on how they replace all those RS SR`s

5.TEXAS

6.Tcu would be my pick to go to 3 if true frosh QB plays instead of Hill

7. rape u

8.Tech

9. Isu

10. KU

More talented roster.....ok....fine....I just long for the day when they will say we have a better COACHED roster than anyone we play....

I haven't posted this previously and had only told a co-worker. But, I think CS say 2017 would be a 10-win season for whomever was coaching, was a set-up. 1) hopes to get him another year and 2) a no-win situation for the coaching replacement if 10 wins were not achieved. I still say Texas is middle of the pack of the conference. I've had high hopes for too long I guess.

My swag without commentary or meaningful analysis

1. 0u

2. WVU

3. OSU

4. UT

5. K-State

6. TCU

7. BU

8.Tech

9. Iowa St

10. KU

1. 0U - Barf

2. Okie Lite - Lots of returning skill on offense

3. Texas - Herman shows what CS could have done with the talent in 2016

4. K State - Purple Wizard, nuff said

5. WVa - lost too much on defense to be considered higher

6. TCU - I'm still not sold on Trill Hill

7. Baylor - Rhule has them playing respectably but the hit on recruiting takes its toll

8. Iowa St - Campbell gets the Cyclones headed in the right direction

9. Tech - The major problem at Tech continues, no defense

10. Kansas - It will take Beaty another 2 years to get the Jayhawks respectable.

I've been reading ESPN's ongoing series on "best units in the Big 12" which breaks down the teams they think will best at each position.

Today I saw the DL . . . Texas was #1.

It felt very good.

1. Texas: Youth permeated the front four at Texas last year. The Longhorns lose nose tackle Paul Boyette and defensive end Bryce Cottrell from a unit that ranked second in the Big 12 in yards allowed per rushing attempt. Breckyn Hager returns as a playmaker off the edge in addition to Poona Ford and Chris Nelson in the middle and Charles Omenihu at strongside end. Malcolm Roach is growing into a star at end, too. Jordan Elliott adds versatility, and the depth looks solid.

The DB's , , ,

4. Texas: The Longhorns feature four corners with starting experience in Davante Davis, Holton Hill, John Bonney and Kris Boyd. If all four play up to their potential, Texas will have the deepest corner contingent in the league. It's time for Brandon Jones and DeShon Elliott, both former elite recruits, to take over at safety, though Jason Hall has the most experience of that bunch. Considering P.J. Locke's prowess at nickel, there's no reason this shouldn't be a dominant group.

The RBs

5. Texas: When Chris Warren III gets 100 percent healthy from the season-ending knee injury he suffered, the 250-pounder will be one of the Big 12's most dangerous running backs. The question is who will back him up? Kyle Porter, Kirk Johnson and ESPN 300 signee Toneil Carter will compete this spring, and Tom Herman called Daniel Young the steal of their recruiting class.

The QBs

5. Texas: Shane Buechele's freshman season got off to an incredible start as he torched Notre Dame in his first career game. But Buechele faded down the stretch in conference play as Texas failed to reach a bowl, leading to Charlie Strong's firing. Buechele might still be Texas' QB of the future. But he'll have to prove it by beating out Austin native Sam Ehlinger, who was one of the country's top QB signees last week.

The LBs

3. Texas: Malik Jefferson leads a unit full of former elite recruits who need to live up to the hype this season. Juco transfer Gary Johnson could be a Day 1 starter, and where the new staff puts the fiery Breckyn Hager will be interesting to follow. Anthony Wheeler and Edwin Freeman gained starting experience last season, and sophomores Jeffrey McCulloch and Erick Fowler have big potential.

Special Teams . . . ouch

6. Texas: See the warning above with Baylor, though Texas returns one of the best special teams players in the country in punter Michael Dickson, a Ray Guy Award finalist who boomed 25 kicks (out of 65) 50 or more yards and had 28 downed inside the 20-yard line. Kicker Trent Domingue is gone, as is top returner Jacorey Warrick. But Armanti Foreman and Devin Duvernay are well equipped to provide a spark.
