A LOOK AT THE VAQUEROS—[SIZE=9pt]UTRGV is coming off a 2-2 week that saw the Vaqueros win [/SIZE]on Tuesday night, 2-1, at Texas State, and take one of three at home against Grand Canyon…RHP Jerred Quartier got the start at Texas State and went six innings of one-run baseball, striking out nine…Coleman Grubbs leads the UTRGV offense with a .320/.360/.405 line…Austin Seiner has a team-high 21 RBI…Ryan Jackson leads UTRGV in appearances with 18…he’s 3-0 with a 2.73 ERA.

A LOOK AT THE LONGHORNS—[SIZE=9pt]Texas dropped [/SIZE]Tuesday night’s game on the road at No. 22 Texas A&M but won on Friday and Saturday night’s at then No. 16 Oklahoma to take the Big 12 Conference Series on the road…on Fridaynight, Texas stormed back with three runs in the ninth inning to win 7-6…on Saturday, Kody Clemens hit a game-tying home run before Zach Zubia’s two-run shot in the eighth gave Texas a 5-3 win.

ZUUUBOMB—[SIZE=9pt]For the second straight week, redshirt-freshman Zach Zubia was named Big 12 Conference Newcomer of the Week…Zubia hit two huge home runs over the weekend at Oklahoma…Saturday’s[/SIZE] put the Horns ahead in the eighth inning, leading to the series win…he hit .357/.500/.857 for the week and extended his reached base safely streak to 37 games.

 

THE KODY SHOW CONTINUES—[SIZE=9pt]Perfect Game/Rawlings and D1Baseball.com each announced their Midseason All-America teams and 2B Kody Clemens was named to the first team on both…USA Baseball also announced Clemens as a member of its Golden Spikes Award midseason watch list…last week, Clemens hit .444/.444/.889 with two doubles, two homers, and five RBI…he had a career-high four hits [/SIZE]on Saturday at OU including the game-tying homer…Clemens ranks in the top five in the conference in several offensive categories: home runs (1st, 11), SLG (1st, .709), total bases (1st, 100), average (3rd, .369), hits (5th, 52), walks (t-4th, 27) and OBP (4th, .467).

D-HAM WHEELS—[SIZE=9pt]Sophomore SS David Hamilton stole his 20th base of the year [/SIZE]on Sunday, becoming the Longhorns’ first player with 20 stolen bases since Ben Johnson’s 21 in 2014…the last Longhorn with at least 25 SB was Golden Spikes Award finalist Drew Stubbs who stole 26 bags in 2006.

GO DJ, THAT’S MY DJ—[SIZE=9pt]After the first five attempted stolen bases against him were successful, DJ Petrinsky has caught 14-of-20 since, good for 56% caught stealing on the season.[/SIZE]

 

CONFERENCE DEFENSE—[SIZE=9pt]The Texas defense has solidified since Big 12 Conference action began…the Longhorns are fielding at a .988 clip over 15 league games, with position players making just five of the team’s seven errors…in 15 conference games, the Texas defense has also turned 17 double plays…the Horns’ .978 fielding percentage across all games is good for tops among Big 12 teams.[/SIZE]
