The Texas Longhorns (0-0, 0-0) kick off a 2020 season shortened by COVID-19 on Saturday night at Darrell K. Royal – Texas Memorial Stadium as they host Dana Dimel’s UTEP Miners (1-0, 0-0).  The Longhorns have beaten the Miners in each previous meeting (5-0) by an average of 30 points, including a 41-7 victory in their most recent meeting in 2016.

Texas returns a potent offense led by senior quarterback Sam Ehlinger, who has started in all 27 games for the Longhorns over the past two seasons.  The Longhorns finished 2019 ranked 14th in total offense but had challenges on the defensive side of the ball, finishing 97th in total defense.

I have been waiting for the last year for Bijan Robinson's debut in the Orange and White. I'm not greedy so I'm hoping that there will be a least one or two plays that will excite everyone like he did in high school.

I was fortunate to watch Roosevelt Leaks in high school for four years. He was exciting in the standard sense of making touchdowns and long runs, however Bijan as far as excitement is on a different level. Hopefully, Bijan highlights will be a standard on ESPN after every Texas game.

I'm also looking for the two H backs. Herman has said that Jordan Whittington and Jake Smith fit his offense perfectly. Jake will have to wait, but I'm looking forward to watching Jordan.

I'm also looking forward to see how much Roschone Johnson has improved. I've read that he has looked the best of all the running backs. I did see that Ricky said that all three running backs will be playing in the NFL.

On defense I'm looking to have a great defensive line this year which has been long time that I could say that and I'm interested in the ruby tackling which is supposed to cut down on injuries and hopefully better tackling.

All great points PD. Like you, I'm really interested to see how the DL performs. Do they get consistent pressure, do they dominate a weaker opponent, and do they limit the gaps in the run game. As a Co DC, I believe defenses set the tone for games and the season and hope this is the year we see a return to a dominant Texas D. That starts up front.imo.

In addition, I really want to see if the OL can push people around.

My other interest is in the positions that are concerned a weakness going into the season. I have heard and read that would be the WR position. I heard that Troy Omeire would have been the starter as a true freshman if he hadn't gotten hurt.

The other is linebacker and then depth on the offensive line. It would great if those postilions play well against a weak opponent.

Was really disappointed to hear about Omeire. Especially since he had seemingly proved many doubters wrong by exceeding expectations. That said, it does make me wonder about the existing receivers which I had thought might be a strength despite losing CJ and DD. Hopefully Eagles will continue to develop on his immense talent and the others will take the next step as well.

I'd also like to see Thompson get some reps tonight as well as us finally rediscover the TE position.

Heck, I'm just ready for some Texas Football!

Our running game should be da bomb this evening. UTEP's DL is a weak spot for them. We should be able to pass at will on these guys.

UTEP has very good WR. But the offense is pretty much him or nothing.

I feel like I need a roster while I watch this game due to all of the number changes.  Very psyched for this game and can't believe it's finally here.  Ok, now time to go watch Milan.

Having to get used to all the new WRs. Used to seeing Duvernay and Johnson for the last few years.
