The volleyball team is ranked #2 in the nation in the Volleyball Coaches Association preseason poll.

Incoming Freshman, Ariel Atkins, won a gold medal last night at the under-18 FIBA Americas Championship. Atkins started all 5 games at PG.

Plonsky gets a lot of criticism from Longhorn fans, but she deserves some praise IMO. The women's soccer, volleyball, basketball, softball, track, swimming teams are all recruiting lights out and all these sports seem to be in an upswing.

Utisdabomb12, I just want you to know that your post just barely passes inspection, THIS TIME!  We are going to let you off with a warning ... with that light text background, if you used a font ONE size smaller ... well, you will be headed for a heap of trouble!  Just thought I would let you know!  And please, do not even THINK of trying to justify this in any other manner!  ;)

In all seriousness, though, thanks for the posts.  We could use more posts about things not football related.

Not much football (American) to talk about today on the site today so I will chime in on UT Women's soccer. The state of Texas is rich in soccer talent, no reason our women's soccer team should not be competing for first place in the Bog 12 conference (or the Big 12 for that matter! Damn typos). Hope we can reel in the top talent and improve our team. I know there are a few soccer fans on HS, any opinions? Non-soccer fans can disregard this message and continue dreaming about what is happening at the bubble and practice field!

Good post Mike!  For your stellar performance, you will NOT be singled out for Special Irritation ... just the usual residual stuff.   ;)

Glad to hear I will not be flogged by the wet noodle concept; also glad I will not have to see a cartoon rendition of a creepy pirate.  Thanks for the support!

Actually, you should be careful there ... don't knock the Noodle.  And I am sorry to tell you that the REAL Creepy Pirate comes WITH the Noodle.  So be careful.  You are on special double secret probation.

Florida (10) on the road appears to be the toughest match. The schedule looks like it is a little easier than last year when they played both Penn State and Stanford. This should be a fun team to watch.

I'm a huge soccer fan. My brother is actually a select coach in the Austin area. The Round Rock/Plfugerville/Austin/SA area is one of the most talent rich areas in the country. Texas should be able to field a top 25 team on just local talent. The problem is the majority of the Longhorn fanbase doesn't care about soccer. The attendance at Longhorn soccer games is a joke. Until soccer is embraced as a legitimate sport we won't see the type of success of the likes of North Carolina, ND, etc. Hopefully, with a little success more people will become more engaged.

FYI I think the season starts tomorrow on LHN (it's an exhibition game though).

Thanks for the info, I played a season on the UT Men's Club team; not a scholarship team but a large tryout and some good players. Quit and my grades skyrocketed with more study time and no soccer commitment. UT could field an awesome mens scholarship team if they wanted, but would unbalance the title XI men's vs women's scholly numbers. Also, yet another non-revenue sport with minimal following most likely.

What club does your brother coach with? I coach my kiddos youth teams in Leander. Glad to see the huge turnout in Brasil of US fans, as well as the embracing of soccer during the Cup. Hopefully not a temporary rise in interest, but it is hard to follow international soccer without any major tourneys going on. Looking forward to the Copa America coming to the Us in 2016, hopefully some games in Texas to attend.

Lonestar SC.

Lonestar SC.
Just saw on local news Christine Lilly of US World Cup and Olympic teams has joined the Texas Women's soccer coaching staff as a volunteer coach. I think she played with the UT coach in college at NC. Might help get some of those recruits to head to Austin vs more traditional soccer schools.
