i am still from the school of thought that coaches will come to Texas. All of them? No, but a high percentage of them will. Most coaches see this as a place that they think they can win a National Championship. Good recruiting base, good facilities, good pay.

i just don't know why it is so hard to turn it around at Texas. We have been below average for 6 years.

I've was at work, and this radical thought just kind of popped into my mind.  So radical, that I tarry to mention it here at the risk of ridicule.  Here goes:

Hire a top notch AD; let him evaluate the program and hire the coach however he wants.  No BOR... no BMD.... no University President.  Those entities can and will certainly have a say in salary, approval, etc... but AD hires the football coach?  He may choose to implement some sort of search committee; he may not.  But get a sports guy to handle sports. 

This is by no means a shot at my fellow posters here who, along with me, offer opinions.  I think most of us understand that our forum here really carries no weight?

Wow, that would suck. I get the impression Sterlin (and most likely Mattox) will leave if Charlie gets canned, so I have no clue who our OC would be next year if Herman can't bring in Applewhite.

I think that major would be the natural hire as the next Head Coach in Houston.  He has earned a shot... past indiscretions notwithstanding.

So Perrin and Charlie have a closed door meeting prior to Charlie's press conference this morning.

Then Charlie shows up at the press conference wearing a B12 pullover instead of a UT pullover or shirt.

If you're UH, why not? Who else are you going to get? Major has worked under Mack, Saban, and Herman. Proven himself to be a good coordinator/recruiter and would keep some continuity within the program.
