Tom Herman

I've been thinking about this, and have resolved that I want:

Complete coaches, know how to manage games, know what we are getting.  Pay the men.

1) Meyer, or

2) Petersen

May need some growth, but appear to have what it takes.

3) Fedora, or

4) Herman

I would throw O'Brien in there, if he is interested in college football, and is good with our timeline.  He would be lumped in at 3/4  If you can think of more names to throw in the hat, let me know, but that's it for now.

I don't want a flavor of the month.

Hook 'em!

will you people get off that "Morris is an Aggie so we don't want him" crap!
I didn't say I didn't want him because he is aggy, I said if they came calling he would leave to go there. Big difference IMHO

I just do not see Myer making another move anytime soon no matter how much you throw at him.  He has a very young team at Ohio State that is loaded with talent that many think will produce a few more national championships plus his wife I belive  is done with anymore moves and they both agreed he could get back into Coaching for just this one job at Ohio State as it is home and he had worked on getting healthy after several scares during his tenure at Florida.  I think Ohio State is one of those schools that can match Texas on any salary offer.

Herman tops my list because of personal qualities that I've read about. He's driven and detail oriented. However, he scares the hell out of me.  A two year HC record when the second year is worse than the first is not a long track record. Although I did hear the announcers say that two his OL was out. I remember when we hired David McWilliams after one year as HC at Texas Tech and that didn't work out. I like Herman, however I would give a call to Chris Peterson and John Harbaugh as my due diligence.

The Ravens today has lost four straight today, so maybe he will want to be like Jim and go to college ball like his father. I believe Harbaugh will be just as successful in college as his brother, but without the crazy. Harbaugh is the one guy besides Meyer who I may take over Herman.

The more I learn about Larry Fedora, the more I like. He inherited an absolute shit-show in North Carolina that was hidden from him before he accepted the job regarding the academic fraud. It would have been understandable if he'd have walked away. But he didn't and to see the job he's done under very trying circumstances is really impressive. Not to mention his Texas roots. I'd be 100 percent OK if Larry Fedora were the new coach at Texas and retained Sterlin Gilbert as the OC.

Fwiw lotushorn who some on here say is the real deal is saying that Peterson would talk to us after the season
Finally some real news. Even if it ain't true it's something I can sink my teeth into. And right now I cannot wait until Charlie Strong and crew are out of here.

I agree lotushorn is the real deal. Peterson would be a safer choice than Herman. He has 12 years of HC experience and he's proven he can win at a Power 5 conference since he has Washington at 7-0.

I was concerned about hiring Peterson when UT hired CS. Boise State was coming off a 8-4 season and Boise State coaches have a history of not doing well elsewhere. After Muschamp left for Florida, Peterson was at the top of the list to replace Mack when Deloss was the AD.

I don't care where Urban Meyer is from any other coach is "settling" for less. When strong was hired the and during our recent baseball search the word was nobody wanted to come to Texas. That is absolutely not true. Nobody wants to leave a good situation for a little more money. Offer Meyer $15 mill a year and go up till he says yes. That's money whipping someone. He's from Ohio at $7 mill even $10 mill but at $15 + he would change his birth certificate. This is a business and coaching is a job. Nobody turns down an opportunity to make 3x their current salary. Don't say we couldn't afford it because that's a damn lie. We can't afford not to pay it if we really want to be relevant again.

Meyer = YES
Peterson = YES
Harbaugh = YES

Saben = YES

I just don't see any of these happening.... I think the best case "doable" scenario is to go after someone who has had success at a Power Conference school for several years; but is currently in a situation that isn't quite top shelf or isn't a good fit.  Start sniffing around the following programs:

Clemson

Michigan State

San Francisco (49ers)

North Carolina

Saban and Meyer are not coming. If they even humor us by picking up the phone, the sole purpose of doing so will be to get a raise from their current employer.

A retirement home in Austin? Heard his wife was looking at assisted living facilities in Austin last week😜

No, she decided your house would do just fine. They'll be there in the morning. Thank me later.

FYI, he farts a lot. But so does your dog.

Next Longhorn FB Coach = whatever "up and comer" we can land for the price we are comfortable with ($5 mill)

It will cost $25 mill part of it salary and part of it the buy out and we will be having the same conversation in 3 or 4 years. We will keep getting excited and then disgusted and UT will make a butt load of cash which is obviously all they care about.

The problem with trying to money whip coaches like Meyer and Saban is that just like the last time. when we tried to get Saban. Usually they end up staying with a nice pay increase and then we are working on a backup selection who now wants $7 million a year because he now knows we are desperate to make the hire before signing day and also we do not want to be declined again which makes us look really bad. That is kinda how we got Charlie if I remember.

I'm for Harbaugh vs. Harbaugh, brother vs brother, when we play Michigan in a few years.

I guess you're agreeing with me?

From what I remember Saban was ready but he wouldn't move forward until Mack stepped down out of "respect". The rumor was Saban was recruiting for a week while his new Bama contract laid on his desk. Once he realized Mack wasn't resigning he signed the contract and Mack resigned the next day (classy move). We are in a completely different situation this time around.
