This kid is the JUCO QB UT needs

I can't believe we are going to flush 5 scholarship QBs for a rental. Mack has to be pushing this to have one last moment in the sun

Not talking down on this kid. I like him, but we've got men on campus Harsin recruited we haven't even seen yet

Sgt John, couldnt agree more. Taking the easy way out(JUCO) is not a solution, its only a fix for the current problem. If there are 5 QBs on campus, that harsin recruited, that he is willing to flush then Harsin needs to be the first flushed.

Harsin didn't recruit Ash and I'd take Waters over McCoy any day of the week. This kid can make his reads faster and move better in the pocket than anyone on the roster. Watch the video.

If we don't grab Waters you can bet your ass Kansas State will. My question is this: when do we (the team) abandon the McAsh system and realistically say we are going to groom the future of this team at qb?

Waters looks good but even JUCO guys have learning curves..... Remember, Mack has been saying that 2013 is the year this team gets back on top... The JUCO qb acquisition might be a way to try and get there faster....

If we go JUCO why'd we recruit Overstreet and Brewer. They're supposed to fix this

I agree. This seems to be a band-aid fix fueled by panic. Waters is also being courted heavily by Penn State. Speaking of PSU, Bill O'Brien did a hell of a job there given the circumstances.

With the qb situation we have --- time to lie in the bed you made.

He has no chance to survive if he doesn't. Going into 2013 it's likely A&M, OU, Oklahoma State and TCU will have more preseason hype (which does matter).

Everything surrounding the Longhorns program is negative right now. Everything Mack does looks like desperation. That's the storyline. Everything right now is perception toward 2013 season. He has to get something working right with the QBs.

Its blatantly a bandaid fix and not a solution. Bill O'Brien is the coach of the year. I def applaud him for going where not many would and being a pillar for that team and school.

"McAsh" Ahahaha... This season needs to be the end of that.

This move really wouldn't affect them. This is about Ash vs. Waters with McCoy out of the picture. None of the underclassmen are ready yet and Ash should still be on the bench if things were the way they should be. Mack NEEDS to be on a plane right now. The two "coaches of the year" both want him. If Snyder and O'Brien want him then why shouldn't Mack with our situation?

Second off-season Texas will be looking at a JUCO quarterback. If that is not telling I do not know what is.

Waters will not be coming to UT, at least the rumor has it. He is a strong Kansas State lean and second Penn State. He is supposed to make his decision on Thursday but I wouldn't expect Texas to be in the mix.

First off just because Texas brings in a Juco doesn't mean he automatically jumps everyone and is the lead competition against Ash. I still think Texas will have an open QB competition this off-season regardless of who comes or goes (outside of McCoy, I find 0 reason why he should be a starter with where the program is right now). Also I have no problem with a Juco QB if he can throw the ball well/consistently and lead an offense/team.

With that said, the fact that Texas is looking at Juco QB's this off-season tells me the QB's they have recruited from high school are guys that all need a lot of development and work. Which also adds to the thought that they missed on other recruits.

What is more telling for me is this is the first off-season that Gilbert (yes I'm going there) would not have been on campus. So whether Gilbert succeeded or not Mack should have already been grooming a successor to be ready to take over this off-season and lead the team. Well, there is no one that sticks out at QB who should step in and lead the offense. No recruit that has come in and really separated himself from the pack. Maybe some recruit (mainly Overstreet/Brewer) stands out this off-season, but so far there hasn't been any news of any QB on campus that can throw the ball well/consistently and be a leader for the team and truly is separating himself from the other QB's

Which brings me back to saying I'd be fine with a Juco coming in. There's no question this offense has weapons surrounding the QB position. The biggest problem with the offense is finding someone to spread the ball to these guys each weekend on a consistent basis. So if a Juco QB comes in and can do that then I have 0 problem with it. Sure that may be Texas admitting they missed on some guys or have guys that need a lot of development, maybe more so than they first thought. But finding a QB for these weapons on offense should be high priority.

Well said but leads me back to the fact that the program is in jeopardy of being set back a handful of years. Gilbert hurt but look at the two guys starting for us. To go 0-3 in the immediate echelon of qb's in terms of viability is hardly excusable. Not when you're The University of Texas. Think Vince Young --------> transitions to ---------> Colt McCoy. That's the progression we should be looking at!

Program is definitely in jeopardy of being set back a handful of years. There is no QB/Leader of the offense to spread the ball around to the weapons, and no young gun has emerged as the guy. Which is sad considering how many years we've been away from the Gilbert experiment. UT has missed out on a lot of guys, and I'd take that argument all the way back to Andrew Luck, since Gilbert was recruited here over Luck.
