I cannot believe the reports coming out of Miami. This booster is serving 20 years in the clink for running a huge ass Ponzi scheme. Part of his indescretions involved providing improper benefits to 'Canes players for a period of 8 years.

From the ESPN website:

Shapiro said he gave money, cars, yacht trips, jewelry, televisions and other gifts to a list of players including Vince Wilfork, Jon Beason, Antrel Rolle, Devin Hester, Willis McGahee and the late Sean Taylor. Shapiro also claimed he paid for nightclub outings, sex parties, restaurant meals and in one case, an abortion for a woman impregnated by a player. One former Miami player, running back Tyrone Moss, told Yahoo! Sports he accepted $1,000 from Shapiro around the time he was entering college.
The sad thing about this story is that when he was in jail, he called several of these players to ask for help and he got none.

You have to read all of the story - Ponzi schemer Nevin Shapiro says he provided benefits to Miami athletes - ESPN

They should ban this school from the face of the earth. My goodness...

Death Penalty? I doubt it. They only do that to small insignificant schools like SMU. Ohio State skated by as did USC with the Reggie Bush improprieties. The NCAA has what seems to be a widespread issue with players engaging in this sort of activity. Problem is they cannot "police" it becasue they do not have the manpower to do so. Enter universities and coaching staff - i.e - THOSE RESPONSIBLE FOR ENSURING PLAYERS DO NOT ENGAGE IN NCAA RULE VIOLATIONS. The Miami scandal is a blatant "in your face, NCAA" slew of activity and if the NCAA were wise they would crush this program as fast as possible. Then they should have a summit and discuss the possibility of paying student athletes a stipend in addition to giving scholarships.

The NCAA is turning into a joke. These schools commit major infractions and get a slap on the wrist. I was, however, disgusted to hear Michael Irvin today talking about how it was all this Nevin Shapiro guy's fault that all this happened. Are you kidding me??? The U took tons of this guy's cash, let him lead the team out of the tunnel and basically continued to take his money while he hung around the players all the time. The death penalty will not happen because everyone loses in this case - money, that is.

Miami is guilty as sin. If you take them down you have to do the same to Oregon, Ohio State and all the others that recently were caught with their pants down.
