The NFL Coach

Talks with John Harbaugh have gone to the next level.
More on this will be coming later.

Patterson is not going to be caught with his pants down.
I need a score card to keep up.

My only concern would be if Harbaugh came to Texas and later decided to go back to the NFL, but worry about today's problem today and tomorrow's problem tomorrow.
If Saban came, wouldn't it be the roughly the same thing? Saban would more than likely be a short term hire (before retiring), so UT would be looking at someone new in 5-7ish years, even if he was outlandishly successful in the gig.

To quote you, "worry about today's problem today and tomorrow's problem tomorrow"

Sounds like CNS is not completely locked. I would easily put John Harbaugh at #2 under CNS.

Agree. Would be my first choice. His brother is a known commodity in college, but seems too impetuous for anything long-term at UT. I think John is a perfect choice. Would rather have him long-term than Saban (although raking in recruits short-term with Saban would be delicious). Don't want to get my hopes up, but after watching the first half of the Alamo Bowl, I need something to look forward to (besides going to work tomorrow).

My only concern with John Harbaugh would be his ability to develop a relationship with the HS coaches. He has no experience with this and the HS coaches are crucial to our future recruiting pipelines. I'm sure he could walk in any HS coaches office and let them play with his SB ring for a while, but words will eventually need to be spoken.

What makes us believe he will be a great college coach? Here's his college experience.

Western Michigan University

(Running backs coach)

(Outside linebackers coach)

University of Pittsburgh

(Tight ends coach)

Morehead State University

(Special teams coach)

(Secondary coach)

University of Cincinnati

(Special teams coordinator)

Indiana University

(Special teams coordinator)

(Defensive backs coach)

Actually, he has about 13 years of college coaching under his belt, so he has done that part of the job before. He'd have to get to know the Texas coaches, but hopefully Suddes will help him out in that (if he were to come).

Count me in as one who thinks this is a big risk. It's high reward yes but this is an unproven commodity.
