Irish In SEC Country Asks: This is as good a place as any to ask this question: What do you see as the differences among the 3 Longhorns sites I know other than this one: Orangebloods, Longhorn Digest, and Shaggy Bevo.

This is a good question.

Orangebloods was good for intel on the program, but its gotten to be just as good here, if not better because there is no filter. I think of the drawbacks to the OB board is the size. Its so large there needs to be an established team of paid moderators to keep things moving, and its not there. There is also an overabundance of people being jerks and keyboard soldiers.

Longhorn Digest isn't bad at all, and Im a big fan of Kevin Flaherty. He's approachable, does a good job, and doesnt go off like a half cocked dick.

Shaggy Bevo I havent seen much of, but they seem to be the "ghetto" of Longhorn boards. I havent found someone yet who had anything nice to say about them.

The pay sites are Inside Texas, Horns 24-7 and OB

Inside Texas is hands down the best, good X's and O's as well as the best sources inside and outside of Bellmont.

24-7 has sort of run out of steam and really does not have much to offer anymore in my opinion.

The less said about OB the better.

For the free sites, you can't go wrong with Barking Carnival or Burnt Orange Nation, I have just started reading Horn Sports so I can't really comment on it.

Shaggy Bevo is definitely the least common denominator but there are always interesting threads on there, not the least of which is MS Shamepaint by Thujone.

I haven't frequented Shaggy, 247 or Digest

Orangebloods has an advantage in pure numbers. The off topic threads make that site, you can ask anything on the board and there will be several experts on the subject for you. The insider posts or pure college football discussion threads are fewer than they used to be, but there is still usually some good threads to be found. There's a lot of trolling over there but anytime you get a site that large that's going to happen. It's turned into more of a discussion site of random things to me than a UT sports discussion site.

Inside Texas has the most inside info because they have over 10 insiders, of which about 5 of them posts very frequently every day (when it comes down to it, the inside info is why a lot of us are around). The insiders come from different perspectives so you get a big picture of what could be going on. JS is always around to answer questions and doesn't hold back. It's a tighter community over there than OBs and they police themselves very well. There is less traffic but more quality per post.

I've only been on Hornssports for a couple of weeks but I like it so far. Anytime you have Mcphaul, Shaunsters, Black Scholes, etc posting I'll be over here checking things out.

Barking Carnival always has interesting articles which I check every once in awhile

I absolutely love this site and agree with your assessment of Orangebloods. My question is what steps will you take on this site to prevent "an overabundance of people being jerks and keyboard soliders?"

Thanks and I'll hang up and listen.

Also, people being jerks on the internet is a reality now on almost any site you visit where anonymous people are allowed to post. Trolling has become a hobby to people while others seem to enjoy winning arguments instead of building discussion. If you're posting on the internet it's probably in your best interest to grow some thick skin and not take things too seriously if people start to f' with you.

One of the advantages of HS is that it is small enough most posters know each other or are at least respectful of each other. On the bigger boards its easy to get jackasses. I admit I can be a world class jackass when I want to, but I try to offer reasoned comments that can be defended. The bigger the site, the tougher it is to maintain a reasoned discussion. The best feature I have found on any site is the "ignore" function. If people get ignored and no one takes the bait when they start trolling, the trolls generally migrate to other boards.

But yes, a bit of thick skin and an ability to snarl at idiots are two things one has to have if they want to converse on most of these sites.

Stay ahead of it. No fear on swinging the banhammer. Allow for self policing on here Block all of Chris Jesse's accounts.

Pretty sure the OB trolls find this place "beneath" them

The difference in this place versus OB is that the MOD's egos don't seem to get in the way of good healthy discussion on any given topic. Over time if not already this will become the go to site for news and information as well as a civil community to seek information.

I only have 1 site that my money goes to (Horns247). I go there and of course come here and that's it. I've looked at he free boards on OB and IT but you can't really get any info off of those so its pretty much a waste of time.

Love where this site is heading.

I also love the potential of this site.

I have to agree with all of the above. If recruiting is as good here as I think it will be, it will give me good reason to cancel my OB sub. The structure of this site and options just make it that much more enjoyable.

I have been at OBs for almost 9 years and my favorite thing about is the OTs and the Girl of the Day posts!!!

It has gotten to where there are way too many call out threads, turns my stomach because I use to love that site. Since joining here, I rarely visit anymore. To prove my point a lot of quality posters have joined here in the last week so I know my thinking is not abnormal.

Now, I assume we all get grandfathered in when/if u start charging...

Its great to get on and have a good discussion with people about something we all care about so much. Even if viewpoint differ, you can be decent about it. Sometimes things might come out different in writing bc of the context. In every walk of life, some people are just A-holes, so you do need some thick skin. So far there dont seem to be any jerks on this site but im sure as it grows we will all find a few. Like RD said above, ignore and more on they are probably not adding much to the conversation anyway.

Keep up the good work. I love the site!

Personally, I like the content at 247 much better than OB. Although Burton seems a little pompous to me at times, I like reading Jeff Howe's stuff, and Gerry Hamilton when he was still there.

Recently subscribed full time to IT too. Fun to read Jesus' stuff.

But the direction of this site is much more fun than any of the others out there.

I've been a member of OB since around 2001 and the content of the site is great and the information you can get from the other members is second to none, but there is no civil discussion allowed. Threads turn into pissing matches and call outs any time someone posts information. I used to post all the time, but now have become much more of a lurker because I don't feel like arguing with stupidity. Not to mention the fact that a lot of the really good posters that I got to know in the early days have either moved because of the lack of civility or stopped posting altogether.

I need to join IT because the information there seems to be second to none, but my wife gives me enough hell about paying for OB that I'm not even going to try to justify that. Especially considering the information that I can get on this site isn't much different than what I'd be getting there.

Another reason why I like this site is because they've let me start contributing. I've talked to Ketch numerous times about working at OB and doing things for him there and never gotten much of a response and within a week or joining here I'm already being asked to write. I'm far from special when it comes to writing, but I do enjoy researching stuff and sharing my opinions and it's nice to be able to do that on a forum like this.

I'm excited about the potential we have on Hornsports. Bringing on Cossell & Shaunsters for the High School Scouting & Recruiting content is really going to help this site grow. We are very fortunate to have the both of them. This is their first gig but, most of us are already familiar with the work they do.

Two weeks ago I met with Mike Barnes & Aaron Carrara and between us, we decided to get serious about growing this site As Mike has stated, this is a site for the fans. If someone enjoys contributing specific content, we are going to encourage them and give them the support they may need.

As you all know, our podcast features other writers & reporters from other sites. It is important to us to assure our users are getting the latest information pertaining to our team regardless of the source. I personally admire the work they do at some of the sites mentioned. Many of us share the same sources. With that said, we here at Hornsports believe we too can make a name for ourselves in a market as big as Texas?

Hornsports has added over 500 new users in the last two weeks so, we are off to a good start.
