The Common Man Prediction Thread – Texas vs TCU

The problem isn't our offense. The first pass Quin Ewers threw for UT should have been intercepted. The second one was intercepted.

These are growing pains. They all go through it. Making mistakes one week doesn't mean he's destined to repeat them the next.

Your last sentence is outright gospel. If we continue to give up 10 yards to the WRs, we will get smoked. We have corners who can lock down if we let them. But the 10 yd buffer puts them at a real disadvantage. So this is on PK to respond to, if he does.
Def understand the Murphy growing pains. We dealt with it last year with Ewers. He will get better but my guess is their defense will try to be aggressive and go for the INT playing high risk high reward.

I’m waiting on a team to just throw it all game. Hopefully Catalon is back to provide more experience and depth but it’s really all on PK. He hasn’t adjusted yet so will he ever?

Agree, because that's what I would do, too. Murphy will have to overcome that either by hot routes or taking off and running the ball.

I know he's been hurt, but with his size he represents a person who other people won't like to tackle. He's not blazing fast, but fast enough to make something out of nothing. But for now, he's thinking pass, pass, pass. He's got to stop telegraphing those passes, too.

Somebody like you or me need to get into PK's ear. That won't happen but we can hope someone does, like one of the analysts.

 Based on some of y'alls prediction I must be unaware of TCU's run for the CFP this year and our struggling to become bowl eligible.

We have too many weapons for TCU. We should win handily. As for the Defense, it will be Boom! Sack-a-lack-a!

If Quinn starts, we win 45-3.
If Maalik starts, we win 35-17.

I know. I’m waiting on MM to take off and bulldoze some folks! But if we don’t want to get him further hurt, I get it. The last time our QB tried to run over someone well we saw that a few weeks ago. Although he’s like 50lbs less than MM.

I'll be optimistic and assume that QE starts. Froggie tries to make it a shoot-out but the D-line comes through again.
UT 40 - Froggie 30

If MM starts? Who knows?

I recall interviews with some of the players for USC who lost to Texas in the Rose Bowl for the MNC. Each of them said they were intimidated by Vince Young's size. "He was bigger than our linebackers" one guy said. They said when they hit VY, it hurt them as much or more than it did VY.

MM is similar size. But I doubt they want him running if he's not healthy.

Sha I love ya, but I respectfully disagree. I think the problem is exactly our offense. We gave KState so many short fields to work with I am surprised we were not run out of the stadium.......4 turnovers and we still win? Against a ranked team?

The defense is not the problem.

I understand. K-State was finally able to move the ball THROUGH THE AIR. When they realized after the 1st half that they couldn't run the ball, they turned things around against a secondary playing poor scheme. K-State is not a prolific passing team. They want to run the ball. But they had their way in the second half.

K-State had 327 yards of passing offense against us. 26 receptions averaging 13.7 yards a clip.

The turnovers put the defense in a pickle I agree. But K-State was having their way with us and that's on PK and his buffer scheme.

We gave up 10 yards cushion on one play where the first down was only 4 yards away.

TCU's defense is pedestrian. They give up an average of 148 yards rushing and 236 passing. RZ defense has given up 11 TD's rushing and 5 passing. That being said, if MM starts and Sark uses the passing game to set up the run game we lose 28-17. Plain and simple. If Sark rides the running game to set up some down field shots we win a close one. 24-21
If QE3 starts this will be a comfortable 36-13 win.

They may be growing pains but some QB's are just turnover machines. The turnovers have just looked ugly and I'm worried that he will be a Daniel Jones type QB.

I watched that game last weekend, and we were very lucky to win.
If MM starts and plays like he did the second half, I don’t think we will win.
Their defense is good enough to stack the line against the run and dare us to throw. Almost any defense can take away one thing if they sell out.
If Quinn plays we win handily
35-14
If MM plays like he did the second half we will need a LOT of luck again.
24-23 horns.
I don’t think he is ready for this stage

I know that Sark wants him to succeed. He will do everything he can to ensure it.
I am wondering if he has the mental toughness to replace MM, if he is struggling. Of course, Arch may not be ready either. And he knows that situation better than any of us do.

Someone posted a question on the OTF livestream asking if a 70% healthy QE3 was better than a 100% MM. Great question. I'm inclined to go with the experienced player, but barely.

I know I don't know much about football, but I just can't understand how we lose this game if TCU loads the box to stop the run. If we go with a TE and 3 WRs and they put 8 men in the box to stop the run that means they are man with no help. I can't see their DBs covering our WR 1 on 1. I'm not saying Maalik won't make mistakes but if they do that, he will have a field day, even if it's a bunch of short passes (5-10yds). Their DBs would have to give our WR a cushion or risk getting beat deep.

TCU's run defense isn't very good. EVERYBODY has run the ball on them.

If they put 8 men in the box, I welcome that. We'll still run on them and have easier passing lanes as well.

Last week Sark was bragging to Matt Leinhart about being able to run the football when the other team expects you to run...the good thing for Texas is if Sonny loads the box and the Texas backs get past the first DL they are gone, TCU let a charmed life last year and like Jaylin Ford say its time for revenge
