Lawrence-- The Longhorns seemed to up their offensive game today against Kansas, but it was not enough to beat the #2 team. Texas fell to the Jayhawks 79-67, following a strong effort from Smart and his team.

The Jayhawks held the lead from their first three pointer within the first minute of play, all the way to the final buzzer.  The smallest point margin for Texas was three points, and that was as close as it got. It was an attempt at a game of catch-up for the Longhorns, but despite their efforts, they went into the second half down by eight, the score being 41-33.

The second half started with Texas winning the tipoff, but this momentum was not enough to push them ahead of Kansas. After a quick turnover from Jarrett Allen, the Jayhawks continued to score. Kansas' 79 points put Texas 1-6 in conference, their first losing record since the 2012-2013 season under coach Rick Barnes.

LIGHTS AMONGST THE FALL

Let's take a look at a positive. Although the Horns fell, freshman Jarrett Allen posted 22 points and 19 rebounds, the most points and rebounds out of both teams. Freshman Andrew Jones sat atop the Longhorn's leaderboard for assists, making five throughout the game. Jones also scored an impressive 15 points. Senior Shaquille Cleare had 11 points, and sophomore Eric Davis Jr. had 12.

WHAT'S NEXT

Texas continues conference play on January 23, when they host the University of Oklahoma. In order to defeat the Sooners, Texas needs to continue to improve their offense, as well as their defense.

Makes me wonder Emily you wreckon a great deal of this season's woes is due to the youth of this team?

Most of the reason for the lack of success is the lack of a point guard on the team. Hopefully, we've solved that with this recruiting class.

We are young beneath the basket. Allen did have one of, if not his best game of the year. I like that it happened against KU. Kid shows up when the chips are down. Allen also showed a nice stroke on his short jumper. Still, not enough to leave early for the NBA, IMO. But I like the progress.

We need consistency on the perimeter. We don't have that right now. We need a shooter who's just going to kill you from the outside if you leave him alone. Right now, teams don't respect our outside shooting.

This season is pretty much done. What we have to play for is next year and who can be counted on during next year's turnaround.
