Swoopes improving?

DMAC, your opinions on whether he can improve or not are also assumptions, my friend.

The one fact on this thread is that we all are making a lot of assumptions based on our own point of view with little fact to back it up. All we have is a discussion here and as with any discussion it is full of opinions, apples, and oranges.

Whether Swoopes IS or IS NOT the starting QB of the future is something that will be handled on the field this Spring.

SOMEBODY has found their way to this site by mistake.
Now, now, there is no problem having a difference of opinion. Granted I do agree that we need to keep the derogatory comments to a minimum. Arguments are good and honestly good in a lot of ways. We all have different perspectives and that is absolutely fine. If not, it would be really boring.

The one thing I would ask anyone is just keep a level head when arguing and let's not call out people for difference of opinions.

I think making an assumption that Tyrone Swoopes improves at the QB position in 2015 is a pretty safe bet.  Hell, I've been shocked at his development in 2014 in only a brief time with this coaching staff with inconsistent results.  Whitewright Texas takes pride in the fact that they have a one screen movie theatre downtown with theatre style seating, allbeit, all at floor level.  That is what you are dealing with when talking about Tyrone and where he grew up and played his HS football.

His leadership skills are being developed just like foot work at the position.  There is damn near more players on the roster at UT than students who attended his HS.

He is a pocket passer without refined pro style offense skills, but has a big time arm and team should get better around him over the next couple of years.

Texas can win in 2015 with Tyrone Swoopes at QB.  How many wins, I'm betting on 9.

I'd say he was more called out for attacking other posters opinions, and mistating facts (ie. repeatedly pointing to a sub 30% completion over a 3 game span).

Hipho:

You are absolutely correct.  I did say 30% over 3 games when it was actually 46%.  That was my error.  Thanks for pointing it out.  Maybe I just have a tainted view of Swoopes so everything seems worse than it really is.

I already stated this earlier but whatever.

Its obvious im am not sold on Swoopes and quite frankly I am amazed so many on here are.  Whether or not its because hes the QB of the beloved horns or not.  Is it wrong to want better?  Is it wrong to want our offense to get atleast one first down in the 2nd half when we are trying to hold on to a lead?  Of course nothing that is said here will make a difference.  So i dont get the point of a hidden agenda at all  I just wanted to get other people opinions on this subject.

I already knew I would get flack for it because of who he is and who he plays for.  Just a nugget of entertainment, its kind of funny how people make fun of Case here but he had a better season in his sophomore year than Swoopes has had.  I dont think he ever had 7.2 QBR in game either, Swoopes did this year vs Baylor and IMO cost us that game.  I guess some kids are fair game for criticism and some arent on this forum.

Comparing players happens all the time.  Coaches, Fans Judges, Committees all do it.

Thanks to all that posted on here with their views, it was enlightening and entertaining.

Im gonna call it now since I have have been dogging the kid all week.  He will probably pass for 350 and help lead Texas over TCU in the second half.  That would be about right.  Regardless of what some of you think I hope he does.

PS Colt is now the starter replacing RG III for the remainder of the season.

The so called attacking comments came flying from both sides, Considering you are on the Pro Swoopes side this thread I wouldnt expect less.

We will learn a lot about both Swoopes and this team in this game.

Are we truly improved since K-State or has it been fools gold? How Swoopes and this team comes out will say a lot for where we go from here.

I personally think we have improved and will show up against TCU.
Very low chance for anything positive when your QB turns it over 5 times... Two for immediate TD and 3 others that led to TDs same drive.

VY is calling out the offense and the turnovers causing the defense to play. His words "if your turning over ball on offense giving them easy points how long can you expect the defense to hold up"

Btw doc did you have turkey or crow today?

I think his performance tonight and Charlie's pc comments says it all. Do you still need convincing? Do you still think he has been fantastic?

Bring in a Juco QB please because if heard can't beat out Swoopes then heard must be overrated

Swoopes looked worse tonight than he did against BYU. AFTER 12 WEEKS....NO IMPROVEMENT !!!!

I think Charlie's thoughts on this are revealed in how much time he spent talking about QB competition in the spring and also recruiting during his PC. That's looking ahead and around you, not so much at the one standing in front of you there.

Yeah this was very disappointing to say the least. Swoopes seems to have major problems in big games. I get a young guy making "some" mistakes, but this was really bad. Poor decisions throughout the game. I won't question his toughness, but he seems to have problems comprehending what a defense, especially a good one, is throwing at him.

Spring may be the most interesting, and crucial, one in years.

With Texas losing a lot of defensive talent at the end of this year, and the search for "the guy" at QB STILL ongoing, how in the world do you expect a nine win season next year?  I hope I am very wrong, but I see another five or so loss season next year. Coach Strong's recruits can't show up on the 40 acres quick enough.

I have never been a fan of Swoopes and good god the comparisions between Colt, Vince and Swoopes are getting old... So so old. I havent heard any person that makes that comparision give an actual ringing endorsement of Swoopes. Just more of a "be patient, wait and see." While I respect that philosophy and the kid should def get a chance to compete for the job in the spring, he has shown me nothing to make me believe that he has what it takes to carry this team. As has been pointed out about 100 times on this site, he just seems lost and his decision making has NOT GOTTEN ANY BETTER through this entire season. And I'm not talking about doormat teams... He plays relatively decent football against very poor opposition and plays bad football against actual competition. The fumble in this game was caused by him not tucking the ball as he was being tackled by multiple frogs. Then theres the pick-6 and the other 3 interceptions which ALL led to frog points. The bottom line is that he does not make our team better and that should be the bottom line for people on both sides of the Swoopes convo. On the grander scheme I hate if for some of the SR's that have had their ceilings absolutely lowered by Case, Ash and Swoopes. Again, Im all for Swoopes competing for the position next year and I will be rooting for the best candidate to lead our team... That said, IMHO, that person is not Swoopes. I hope this regime does a much better job of recruiting, preparing, and fielding QBs than the Mack Regime.

And it didnt help that we got screwed on several calls in this game...

Swoopes has been here for 2 seasons now. He is no better now than he was when he got here. Time to move on.

Shocking performance last night and has forced me to change my perception of the young man.  Never looked as if Tyrone went through any type of progressions at all as he pre-determines pre snap or takes off and runs.  Very disappointed.

Hahaha... I wont say that he is no better than when he arrived but he is not much better. We have talent EVERYWHERE except at QB. Even the OLine has made enormous strides this year... The missing piece is the most important piece.

Maybe we are seeing why his 2A HS went 1-9.  Maybe he just isnt a winner.  I know that is probably too simplistic and undeserved but some guys just win and some dont.

Leadership

Staring down his primary, pick six seems to a be a common theme

Bonehead decisions

Hesitation

Awareness

Poor form, running into RBs during exchanges.

If you watch him closely, sometimes I dont think he has a clue as to what down it is or how much time is left on the play clock.  Like throwing a 4 yard pass on 3rd and 15 then running back to the huddle as if it was 2nd down only to go oh crap that was 3rd then jog off.

I know he has an NFL arm, but id rather have a weak arm QB with more game smarts and accuracy, oh wait we did that already with Case.  Haha Hell put Daje at QB
