Alderman – With the loss of three starters on the offensive line along with the insertion of Tyrone Swoopes as the quarterback, inexperience is scattered throughout Texas' offensive lineup. While the Texas defense is a major strength, the inexperience of the offense will unfortunately lead to an advantage in time of possession and field position for BYU. I expect a low scoring affair for much of the first two and a half quarters. BYU will wear down the defense and eventually put a couple of scores on the board in the late 4th to put the game out of reach. BYU 28 – Texas 13
Carrara – Even with David Ash and Dom Espinosa in the lineup, this was going to be a tight game. The Horns don't have them and it was announced several days ago that Estelle and Harrison are suspended for the BYU game... double whammy to the Texas offense. The offense will struggle for obvious reasons and BYU will stack the box and force Swoopes to beat them with his arm. Texas needs some sort of passing game to allow Brown, Gray and Swoopes to have success on the ground. The potential for turnovers from Swoopes in this game is concerning for Longhorn fans. BYU 17 – Texas 14
Cotcher – Amidst all the gnashing of teeth about the Texas offense, it’s easy to lose sight of the defense. That’s a mistake. Yes, Taysom Hill & BYU are better than UNT. No, Taysom Hill & BYU are not as good as Texas made them look last year. I won’t let the memory of 2013 cloud my judgment. It’ll be ugly, but Texas gets it done. Texas 16 – BYU 9
Feeley – The BYU game will be an interesting one. With David Ash and Dom Espinosa out, the Longhorn offense will NEED someone to step up and lead the team. You'd think Shipley but, if no one can get him the ball consistently there's no telling. BYU and Texas will be an impressive defensive game (as will most of Texas' games this year) and the deciding factor will be turnovers If Texas can manage to take the ball away they could sneak out with a W. If not… BYU 24 – Texas 17
Flanagan – The news of David Ash being out for this game is a devastating blow. My belief is that he is out for the season. So the Longhorns move on. Tyrone Swoopes does not get an easy start with BYU's pass rush. The key will be can the defense continue to get 3 and outs and create a short field for the Longhorns so that a couple of first downs will put them in field goal range. I don't know if they can, so I will go with the known quantity: Taysom Hill's playmaking ability. BYU 20 – Texas 13
Hinton – Although Vance Bedford said the Longhorns are not seeking revenge, it has to be on the minds of the defensive players who were a part of last year's debacle in Provo. As a result, the defense will slow down Taysom Hill and the BYU offense, proving that last week's performance was not a fluke. The Texas offense, led by Tyrone Swoopes in his first college start, will try to grind out yards on the ground, but I expect the Cougars' defense to force him to pass the ball as well. At this point, Swoopes is almost a complete unknown, but I think people will be surprised to find that he's a better passer than many fans are giving him credit for. Swoopes makes a statement, but it’s just enough. This is going to be a fairly low-scoring game. Texas 20 – BYU 13
Hopkins –With our recent suspensions and Ash's injury, the Longhorns will have to show up ready to play their hardest. It won't be a high scoring game, but we'll pull out a win in the end. Texas 24 – BYU 21
Roach – It would be easy for this team to lose heart, but I haven’t seen evidence of that over the course of Strong’s tenure. I see this as a game where a team somewhat in turmoil rallies around their coach and young quarterback. Defense is going to play a huge role in this one as several players on that side of the ball look to make up for the embarrassing performance that occurred last season. Malcolm Brown and Johnathan Gray play huge roles in this game for the ball control offense and Swoopes scores one with his legs. The defense forces three turnovers with the final one saving the game for the Horns. Texas 23 – BYU 21
