Some thoughts on the latest Kyler Murray rumors

Of course Swoopes will be a factor.  He is the returning starting QB.  Heard will be a factor as well - as the RS freshman.

I hope the competition is intense and I hope the best player wins.

That way it is all good for the team.
This!

When you have competition, the cream will rise to the top.

Good article.  You've mentioned some compelling things, but disregarding all the rumors of press conferences, orange ties, etc. - his visit to the UT coaches and Augie simply cannot be ignored as the main deal.

It is in direct contrast to your posted tweet whereby he said hearing from UT is not happening.  Obviously it IS happening.  And the most compelling thing to this is that the evidence suggests that the UT coaches didn't contact him - HE contacted them.

And, slice it any way you want, but him, his father and Lodge coming to Austin cannot be described any other way other than monstrous, IMO.
Doc, that tweet was from last May at the elite 11 camp.  I dug it up to have a chuckle because when I asked him if he was hearing from Texas he said "Yes, but that ain't happening".  As in, yes I've heard from them but they aren't even a consideration.  At that time Murray was pretty chilly to me when he found out I was reporting from a Texas website.  Anytime you do an 8 question interview that lasts 43 seconds you get that impression.

Here's some stuff from Feeley and Myself  on the reports we did from the elite 11 last May.

Me:

Allen quarterback Kyler Murray has some great tools to work with and had a strong day as well.  He looked great on all of his drops and has very good arm strength.  His "fastball" that he throws on outs and slants was as good as any on display today, and he shows nice touch on his deep ball.  I approached Murray after the camp and he said that many of the rumors out there are inaccurate.  I asked him if he had a decision date coming up and he replied, "No that's not true".  I asked Murray who his leaders were and he replied, "I don't have any".  I also asked Murray if he had heard from Texas lately and he said, "Yes, but that's not going to happen".

Feeley:

At first glance Murray doesn’t look like a quarterback. He’s a little short with a stocky physique that looks better suited for running back or even fullback, but when Murray threw the ball all those questions were erased. Kyler was quick, on time, and accurate with every pass.

Murray took snaps from the shotgun equally as well as he did from an under center and had arguably the best five-step drop of any player in attendance. With great body control and impressive technique to match, it was certainly no surprise when he was given a chance to compete for the days MVP award.

Judging from his quotes about the Longhorns, Murray is a longshot at best for Watson and Texas. After his performance at camp though, his name is worth following throughout his recruitment.

I've been checking all the sites, including the ag and Big 12 sites, and I just haven't found any sign that would indicate anything but pure joy for us on signing day.  The kid going to UCLA was a bummer, but we almost had him as well.

And it just doesn't make any sense that a boy and his family, that have been immersed and steeped in aggy lore for so many years, would even consider signing with their bitter enemy - Texas.

But, Holy Mother of God, (don't say it, Dr. Bill, don't say it) it looks like it is going to happen.

you were 'LoL-ing' at the notion of an aggy legacy coming on board less than 24-hours ago now you've switched, which is fine as long as you don't say you're batting 1.000 regardless of how it ends up.

Hey, I will be the first to step up and eat crow if Murray signs.

I said weeks and weeks ago no way in hell, then after Malik committed, I  said we had a LONG shot chance, then I waivered again and said no way...  THEN lightning seemed to have striked the last 24 hours... WOW.

If Murray actually signs a LOI, then many of us will have to get catered grilled crow to eat from Stubbs BBQ or another place of your choice.

I can't lie, I'm in the same boat you are, Worster.  Dammit, I just can't make myself believe that Murray would flip.  IT DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE!

But I just have this gut feeling that it's happening.

I wonder what Vegas would have set the odds to a month ago for Murray flipping to us..

i'm with you.  i won't believe it until an LOI is in.  there is no reason to believe it will happen.  why wouldn't he want to play where his dad played?

the only positive is that he and his dad were on campus.  i like the fact that there is history between kevin and CS.

Not all positive history, either.

Don't forget that Kyler's uncle is the legendary Calvin Murray, former Longhorn great in CF for the baseball team.
