I actually think the Texags guys are already starting to hedge. Luicci said some interesting things last night. They are too hardheaded to come out and say that Murray might end up at Texas, but it's definitely something they've started to hedge on.The aggy guys have no idea what is happening, just like they all thought Malik was an aggy before he wasn't. They had no idea that Murray was going to be in Austin, and the only reason they found out was Murray and Lodge tweeted a photo of a Texas road jersey. They have been playing catch-up since then and I highly doubt any source truly knows what is going on. I feel that with the Texas moderators on different sites you get honest opinions good or bad, with aggy it's the exact opposite. They are all fan boys before they are reporters.
PS, Kyler suit appears to be blue from last night and not brown.
Have to agree. The momentum created by this late surge in Longhorns recruiting helps for 2016 momentum. Aggies in the SEC is still going to be a selling point for some kids. But with the playoff and the poor showing by the SEC in the bowl season coupled with the waivering of recruits gives Texas the momentum.Great write up Mike.
This is a win-win for Texas in my opinion, even if the Horns don't flip Murray.
1. Getting him on campus is a win. A year ago it wasn't possible, no way. Half a year ago? Nope... A week a go? Ha... But there he was just a few short days ago tweeting photos of "his" Longhorn away jersey.
2. If he flips that is great. If not that's still ok too. One of Strongs opening comments when he first was hired he wanted to build walls or close the boarders on the state. Something like that? With a 6-7 record and all the negative recruiting from other in-state schools like TAMU, Baylor and TCU (who have all had some recent success while the Horns fell on hard times) he managed to get Murray, along with Lodge and Jamabo on campus with two'ish weeks left until signing day. That's a victory right there. Shows that not only can Strong reach into Florida and grab talent he can also reach down the road and get the attention of the high profiled TXHSFB kids..... No way, not after a 6-7 season.
3. Recruiting is a stressful business. These kids are being pulled in several directions by family, friends, coaches....even fans in a stalker'ish way. It would of been a safe bet that if a kid that's committed, truly no doubt 100% committed, would want to chill and relax till signing day. He was on campus two-weeks before signing day. Again, that's a win for Strong and his staff. A. Win.
4. The attention that this one visit is getting is something I've never seen. The attention to a team that went 6-7 last season. Granted, for the most part this recruiting "season" as been good with early enrollies and Florida but, the positives attention from one kid..... A win. Brings me to my next thought.
5. Whether he comes on board or not doesn't matter does it? They won't admit it but this one visit has struck fear in every Aggy in the world. A win. I know some die-hard Longhorn fans that prefer this over actually getting him. Just think how the reaction would of been if it would of gotten out sooner.
6. There has been and will continue to be a lot of action going on behind closed doors. His visit was top secret stuff. Why? Think about that.
Again it's a win-win, IMO. If he doesn't flip it's ok. He was on campus after a 6-7 season. Just think about the types of players Strong and co will get on campus after a 13-0, 11-2 or even a 9-4 season. No matter what happens with this kids recruitment the momentum gap the other in-state schools had is closing fast.
A win.
Ketch mentioned a 'big visitor' this weekend in his report before deleting that line. I wonder if Mack really is visiting. Don't know who else it could be.Taylor Hamm is hedging now, "Something has certainly changed since my bold post on him being solid after this weekend and we'll have complete thoughts on things later today. Texas will also have another big visitor in this weekend"
With Hamm reporting it, I think it's Mack.Ketch mentioned a 'big visitor' this weekend in his report before deleting that line. I wonder if Mack really is visiting. Don't know who else it could be.
Of course Swoopes will be a factor. He is the returning starting QB. Heard will be a factor as well - as the RS freshman. The Ags can say what they want BUT CS is not guaranteeing any HS kid a starting spot at QB. Agree, but I honestly think it'll be best if Kyler redshirted.Of course Swoopes will be a factor. He is the returning starting QB. Heard will be a factor as well - as the RS freshman.
I hope the competition is intense and I hope the best player wins.
That way it is all good for the team.
i definitely agree on redshirting. i read that his dad is ok with that as well.Agree, but I honestly think it'll be best if Kyler redshirted.
I believe that about most freshmen QB's, though. Maybe he's special enough to not need it. We'll see.
I would love to agree with you, but I can't. Aggy is loaded with talent with more coming in. Their best players have been young, but they are getting older and they, literally, could compete for the West division championship, next year.Has there ever been a coach in the recent past whose program peaked in Year 1, because it's becoming more and more obvious that that's what happened with aggy and Sumlin?
