Posted this on Burnt Ends but I'll do a new thread for it.
Ehlinger has always been very accommodating and open with me so I'm not going to push on him today. I'll give him some time to cool off and catch up with him later in the week.
A couple of thoughts from me here.
1) Why would you invite him to campus just to not offer? - on one hand you risk something like this, on the other he does live close to campus and maybe the staff feels they owe him a face to face. The dangerous part is the reality is the perception of a 16 year old. Texas needs to do a little damage control probably, but Sam is a level headed and composed kid and I think he will cool off.
2) what is the plan at QB? - seems simple, it's Shawn Robinson right now. He is the only QB in 17 they would take a commitment from. With 3 incoming quarterbacks in this class there is probably only room for one spot here. At some point you have to start watching your numbers at the position. With a year and half until 2017 signing day I don't think it's unreasonable to say we are going after this guy until he tells us no. Unfortunately recruiting is a game where you have to say "We like you a lot, but you are behind this guy".
3) I think Ehlinger has the chance to be a stud at the next level. The QB talent in state is stacked, but Ehlinger was a pretty clear #2 to me. If Robinson doesn't work out I think you could make a run at Ehlinger and recruit Mascorro as an athlete.
4) I don't foresee this having long term consequences and the outrage is probably a bit high at this point from fans
