Saban To Texas

I think they meant McPhaul for president...which was funny. At this point, I would probably vote for him!

A lot of people on this site are going to be disappointed if this all comes crumbling down.

Not really. I never bought into "insiders sources" in the first place.

I think Mack is gone, or at least I hope. But I don't think Saban will be replacing him.

Welcome to Texas. Thank you guys for all your hard work. It has been fun lurking the last few weeks.

So will you buck up and eat crow if/when it does happen? I'm in the cautiously (Very) optimistic camp...

I am relatively new to this message board stuff and I don't have access to insider information so I can't verify what has been reported. HOWEVER, I have been impressed by what McPhaul has been saying for weeks and more impressed that it came to fruition. I am a BELIEVER in what McPhaul says. So if he says that Saban is coming to Texas, I BELIEVE it.

I am not concerned that Mack is fighting this.....the train has left the station and Mack is on it. He is just trying to figure out how much money to take on his trip.

Hook em

I said this morning that he was fighting this! Mack is making it a money grab on the way out.
i am sure Texas would not mind giving Mack more than what his buyout states and i do not have issue with it at all - i just believe there is a right way to do this and from all the reports that are floating around

Mack sure ain't doing it the right way - so much for all his talk about integrity and moral standards -

Mack has been paid a lof of money to be our coach - i believe that job entails two parts ( i am sure there are more aspects to it - i am just looking at the situation from a basic perspective)-

1) show the results on the field - have a competitive and dynamic program (we may not win every game but if the heart and effort are there then the fans will respect that- this has not been the case IMO the past 4 years)

2) ensure that the program generates a positive revenue

the revenue part has been there definitely but IMO one does not get paid 5 million year for doing 50% of ones job

True, but the REAL Longhorn fans on this board all realize that Saban is no guarantee of future National Championships, and that TEXAS pride and spirit will help the next coach regardless of who it is back into the national spotlight..We are the Jones', we set the bar, and the only legacy WE are chasing is the one that men like DKR established in the first place..

If Texas fans have survived the past 4 painful under achieving , they will survive however this plays out

It's not going to happen. Sexton is using Texas to milk Bama for more money.
How much do you think Sexton can milk from Bama...bet it doesn't top what he can make in Texas from the big boys.

If Saban doesn't come, it has nothing to do w/ money.

I really believe Mack's theory is "I built it so I can tear it down". Seems bitter and wanting to make it harder on the next staff. I have said it before and I will say it again, Mack is ALL about Mack!!

This is gospel folks.

Bama may counter, but it won't be a serious one that Texas would have trouble with. I've heard that would be entirely intentional and for posture. However, a counter is not a given. Of course, the decision is for Saban there.

Texas has been very very good to MB over the years so let's just take Texas to the wood shed on the way out the door. Wow how can you not respect a guy like that. I am sure MB could care less but I have really lost a lot of respect for MB and how he handled this. My friends y'all have a great week

Man, I hope the very definite statement in the title is correct. Reading about this here and then on OB is like reading about two completely different subjects. The one thing I hang my hope on is Saban's silence. He can shoot all this down with one sentence but has not.

Assuming you are correct, Sexton is using the threat of Saban leaving to cause Bama to panic and thus deliver more of whatever Saban wants (presumably money). The risk in this is that if Saban is bluffing, Bama could very easily call his bluff and if that happens, both Saban and Sexton have a HUGE problem (Saban having depleted his reserve of good will with Bama and Sexton losing negotiating leverage for other clients as they now know his tells. Don't forget, Bama has offered what they can reasonably offer when they profferd their latest extension a few weeks ago. Saban would be asking them to stretch even further and people are going to be asked to even more than they were offering willingly. That depletes good will).

One thing I have learned is that at a certain level, you don't bluff. You better be ready to carry through on what you have threatened. Sexton may just be trying to get more money from Saban, but he has to have a credible strategy if Bama balks and calls his bluff. If Saban goes all the way to negotiating a deal with Texas and leading a such a high profile on, all the while actually negotiating in bad faith because he never intended to leave Bama and was just playing a game to get a raise, Saban's reputation would take a HUGE hit. So would Sexton's. If schools know Sexton is willing to enter into bad faith negotiations, Sexton has a major credibility problem moving forward.

Saban could get a raise much easier than by risking his professional reputation and Jimmy Sexton's professional reputation. If Sexton was willing to play Texas, he would be willing to play anyone. I don't think Sexton wants to risk future negotiations and to be tabbed as untrustworthy. Whether Saban ultimately comes to Texas is probably unknown to all parties and time will tell. However, i don't think the negotiations are in bad faith and part of a ploy to get a few more dollars out of UA. Saban and Sexton would lose good will if they win and lose even more if Bama calls their bluff and they then have to come back to Texas to start negotiating in good faith. Sexton doesn't work like that. Don't forget that if Saban leaves, Kirby Smart becomes a candidate for the Bama job. I will give you one guess who Smart's agent is. Yep, Jimmy Sexton.
