Saban- Here We Go

I want to believe. Really want too. But your earlier comment made me realize I can see how anyone can be turned off by what happened on Friday.
its time to move on.

So true. But ya know, anything is possible.

I'm going to remain open minded on this until I hear back from the two guys who told me about the Saban talks continuing. Jesus has been off before and like I said, he hasn't talked with his guy yet.

But yea, if the common sense you and I see is ruling the day - then Saban is for the history books.

College football is crazy though.

I would like to believe it true also, but until I see the press conference I will hold off. Out of curiosity though, I do wonder if this was all a setup with Saban's agreeing on an extention and Macks announcement to retire? IF and a big IF something does go down. I bet we won't know until something official is said.

it has been one heck of a roller coaster with Saban - do not see him coming here now with all that has transpired

would be thrilled if we got Harbaugh - but feel he is a long long shot

would be happy with UM/ Malzhan / Fisher or Briles ( don't feel Fisher would leave his present job) - any one of them would do very well here

aidensdad (who is legit) is saying today Saban is not dead as well
and Suchomel at Orangebloods is admitting he's heard Saban is not dead either
Who's aidensdad?

Who's aidensdad?
Reliable poster.

Coming back to the Saban thing, Red is in love with the guy and apparently has his fingerprints all over the renewed talks.

JS said it wasn't happening. But I'm anxious to see if his stance changes tomorrow since he had not talked with his source before stating that.

Sirhornsalot......IF Harbaugh were truly interested, wouldn't we have to get some kind of assurance he was coming(as in working out the details to his contract) since he would not be free until well into January? I would think that waiting that long before assuring ourselves of a coach is a bit risky? I am somewhat concerned that they will try and wrap this coaching search up ASAP ....as was stated earlier by a recruit----- by the bowl game. Your thoughts? Many thanks!

Of course we're still talking to Sexton. He has a bunch of other clients and he would love to place one at Texas. If Saban wants a job at Texas, though, he is going to have to apply like everybody else. We're not doing back channels.
Completely false...anyone that is currently under contract is being contacted through back channels. It's incredibly naive to believe back channels aren't used.

I talked with my source and he said Saban is definitely not dead. We are still talking with Sexton through back channels. We have some major hurdles to overcome after all of this (think Mack's future role at Texas). We would have to specifically and very clearly create a legitimate firewall between Mack and the football program. However, the fact that Mack is finally gone has brought Saban back to the table. It will be an uphill battle.
McPhaul, do you have an update on this for us?

I thought someone here said that Harbaugh has said no--thrice times?
...2-3 times depending on who you trust. But I read he told IMG and BMDs no. This was all well before the vacancy so I would not take that to Vegas.

Although I wanted Saban, I'm beginning to think we may have dodged a bullet.

I really don't care how arrogant it sounds, because it IS the truth. We ARE the University of Texas, not to be confused with the likes of the University of Arkansas, etc. The head coaching job here is the best in the land - period.

Saban knew this as well and I think this is why UT appealed to him.

However, if Saban was truly committed to some kind of "behind the scenes" deal and really wanted to come to Texas and he was assured by "BMD's" that all impediments would be taken care of, it sure didn't take much for him to back out of the deal. If he really coveted the job, something like Mack Brown hanging on wouldn't stop him. Particularly, if he was being assured by the BMD's that things would be taken care of. He, himself, would have fought for the job. He didn't and that is a telling sign. I don't want any damned coach that is so easily defeated or thinks he should be the pharoah of UT - and that is why I think we dodged a bullet.

Furthermore, and on another subject, all the rumors of the BMD's driving the bus were apparantly false. It appears the person driving the bus was none other than Mack Brown himself. He convinced his bunk buddy, Bill Powers, that Saban was no good and that he needed to block him by supporting Mack's threat of staying after all. The inmate was running the asylum and no one had the power (or cajones) to make Powers fire him. So, it appears, after all, that the only real BSD was Mack himself.

Not buying it.
Me either, and I WANT it to happen because I think he would wreck shop with Texas. (I also want to see Bama fans cry.). However I feel about him as a coach though, I don't think that much of Nick Saban as a person, and even I don't think he is low enough to back out of his recent verbal commitment to stay at Bama... not after all the hype lately.
