In 1988, Tony Gwynn lead the National League in batting average; despite this, his career average fell by over three points.

From July 3, 1993 to May 9, 1995, Tony Gwynn batted .403 during a span of 179 games

Most career plate appearances against Greg Maddux with zero strikeouts: Tony Gwynn 107, Juan Pierre 41, Garry Templeton 33, Randy Winn 33
