Per Jason Suchomel from Orangebloods, Texas running back Chris Warren will transfer out of the program.

Warren rushed for 1,150 yards on 204 carries and tallied 13 touchdowns on the ground. This year he saw in uptick in pass catches as he reeled in 18 catches for 229 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Warren was utilized as a tight end/H-back down the home stretch of the season.

Texas has not confirmed Warren’s intentions at this time, but this is one that has been rumored for awhile since Warren seems to still want a shot at playing running back.

This one stings. Warren was outstanding when he arrived on campus. I still remember that Tech player saying he'd never been hit by someone as hard as Warren. I truly believe that Beck screwed the pooch here. Somebody is about to get a very talented running back.

And so it begins.  Texas has got to stop this endless loop of being a young team.  I wonder how many more are leaving?  I saw another report that both Duverneys, Cuney, Alex Anderson, Jake McMillion, Edwin Freeman, and Garret Thomas likely wont be back.  Also, Jefferson, Hill, Elliott, Williams, and Omenihu want to go pro. I could see the first 4, but id imagine Charles O would be back. Counting Warren, thats about 11 extra scholarships that will come open.  That is a lot of attrition and will hurt depth.

I kinda figured this and it sux tbh...good luck to him.  Unfortunately, I don't think he will be the last either

Is this part of the culture renovation?

If so I guess rebuilding culture and a program takes a decade.

This will not sting as much if Andrew Beck returns next season. A healthy Cade Brewer and Beck gives Texas 2 quality options at the TE position, with Reese Leitao coming off a redshirt.

He needs to do what's best for him, so best of luck to Chris. Tough go-around for all the Texas RB's this season - the line simply wasn't there.  The offensive play-calling was less than desirable most of the season but a running game isn't something that simply manifests itself. The staff needed to make a conscious effort to try and establish it each and every game. I felt like they were impatient and opted for QB scrambles and the passing game far too early.

Looking ahead, it is highly likely Texas loses another player or two to transfer.  The staff has their work cut out after the bowl game to try and develop an offensive identity, potentially with a new OC.

I really appreciate this young man and the way he handled himself this season. I'm sure he wasn't real happy but he didn't air his grievances publicly.

If he can find the right situation I believe he can be a very productive running back. I wouldn't be surprised if he winds up on an NFL roster in the future. He's a big back with decent straight line speed and good hands. Those attributes project better in the pro game than the current college game.

Do you honestly believe that Herman would make that change after 1 season?  That would mean like 5 OC's in 4 seasons? PLUS, that's Herman admitting he made a mistake out the gate.  I just don't see it...

Agree 100%!  And wouldn't surprise me in the least if he ends up at USF...

Good luck to him but lets cut the shit shall we.

Warren was a hideous blocker for the better part of first 8 games.  Its not like he was a freshman either.  An upperclassmen that barely even tried.

If he wants to bail that is fine by me.

I just hope Herman swallows his f##king arrogance because that loss to Tech was on the coaching staff and not just the kids as he said.

Certainly a loss for the team, because you saw what his potential might be at the start of last season. I think he would've been a good fit actually for the H-Back/TE position, but if he rather wants to try and play RB somewhere else, so be it.

I think the fact that he fell behind our two freshman at the RB position should be some indication that we're able to mitigate the loss at RB, for the TE position that makes it even more crucial that A Beck stays another year.

All signs point toward a relatively high rate of attrition, and while that sucks from a seniority / depth perspective, you normally don't transfer when you are a key contributor. What I'm saying is: Next man up!

p.s. somebody said that both Duvernays might be transferring as well in another post, both haven't been big contributors so far and I have the least concerns regarding depth on WR and DB looking at our incoming class right now

Edit: Anyways, best of luck to CW3. I think he may be more productive and happier somewhere else, and he has shown this season how versatile he can in terms of running and catching out of the backfield

It’s definitely not out of the question.

Personally, I think Warren’s best chance to cash NFL paychecks is to embrace the position change he made late at Texas.  He’s a big guy who’s a slow starter, he doesn’t run up to his size consistently who just hasn’t it put it together heading into year four. On top of that he was also injury prone so that’s another issue he will face regardless of position.

Even if Texas let him stick at RB it was obvious he was losing carries to younger backs and with Keaontay Ingram on the way it wasn’t getting any easier.

Best of luck to the young man. I wish it had turned out differently for him at Texas.

He's an H back, if he want's to be stubborn, so be it.

10 Seniors plus 12 probable Juniors/RSJ/Sophomores will be gone from the current roster.

Have to agree with you. I didn't felt like the position change was meant as a demotion, but rather he was taken over by the guys behind him and the coaches tried to find a solution for him where he could potentially thrive. I think the position was better suited for him anyways, but if he wants to play RB rather, so be it.

He has been a disappointment.  I tip my hat to you for your ability to maintain homer ship while being objective.

I have mixed feelings about TH's arrogance that has been referenced in this thread.  Nobody loves arrogance (see Baker Mayfield) BUT somebody has to slap the entitlement out of a large part of the Texas roster.  I am beginning to think the 'pee chart' isn't so much about science or performance but a method by which he is able to locate players who are not willing to be disciplined (coached).

Let us hope Texas doesn't lose any offensive linemen to attrition/transfer.  I don't think Texas can endure another season of an inexperienced line.

Good point.
