*****RED RIVER RIVALRY GAME THREAD - No.3 Texas Longhorns vs. No. 12 Oklahoma Sooners*****

Coaches should show the picture of Venables and OU celebrating that is on cover of ESPN before every practice. If that doesn't motivate them, then nothing will. It's one thing to lose to a superior team. That was not the case. That was a very winnable game, even after all of the turnovers and penalties. As Darrell Royal said: "Don't matter what they throw at us. Only angry people win football games.”

Secondary is awful. They are just dudes nothing special about them. LB are bad outside of Hill. Pass rush was nonexistent. The trenches are bad. I’m no fan of Quinn but he played well in the second half.

I keep hearing we will see them in December. We haven’t done good enough to have long term goals. We haven’t made the conference title game since 2018 and haven’t won it since 2009. We have to earn it.

After rewatching first half I thought Horns played ok. ou just made more plays. Start working on the weaknesses this game revealed. Hit the practice field with everone yelling beat ou.

But do not forget have to win out to see ou again

Since the tie in 1995, our record in this game is

- 2-5 in the last 7 games

- 4-11 in the last 15 games

- 11-18 since the tie in 1995

We are ou bitch

I thought Ewers played well after a slow start. I don't pin this loss on him at all.

One thing I'll grudgingly admit about OU turning things around is this unexplainable thing called culture that OU seems to have that breeds winning. Since the advent of the Big XII they've won something like 30 more games than we have and 11 more conference championships. Hate them though I do, my unbiased self says they are superior to us by a big margin. Having said all of that I expect them to stub their toe somewhere along the line this season like they usually do.

A few observations regarding the Def today.

Nearly everyone was concerned about the lack of true pass rush talent going into the season but many including myself thought it had been overcome or at least minimized by scheme. Against the world’s greatest holding OL ( ou has always managed to hold without being called) our lack of a pass rush was exposed.

Additionally, Gabriel’s experience and ability to make quick reads further exposed the defense. His experience and knowledge of their system was a stark contrast to Milroe’s inexperience and inability to make quick reads. Gabriel is by far the best QB we have played this year. Likely that we will play until the playoffs.

Lastly, while we may have been more battle tested, their early season schedule allowed them to hide a little more and likely spend more time preparing for this game. The advantage of playing an exteeemly soft schedule early. I’ll be shocked if they make it the rest of the way without a loss.

All that said, they outperformed and out coaches us as a whole us today. My hope is that we get CJ, JT , and our OL healthy for the rest of the season and turn Hill loose off the edge or use him as the spy if we see them again.

HOOkEM!!

Did Gabriel also open our eyes how far Quinn must. He has physical trait except long ball but he lacks between ears

Any team in any year in any conference has to earn it.

Yes, we have achieved a 5-1 record (as opposed to last year when we had already dropped two games by the ou game) and any team in that set up should have long term goals. Those goals should have been established back in Spring ball.

We haven't had Steve Wooster since the early 70s. Neither that or what we did or didn't do in 2018 or 2009 have nothing to do with this season or this team.

Maybe if we had put some pressure on Skippy he wouldn't have looked as good. When you have all day you can do some great things.

How many times was Quinn sacked? I lost count.

Most everyone on this board predicted Texas would lose a game or 2 this season and when it happens, they act like the world is ending. Man up y'all, the season isn't over!

Gabriel played out of his mind yesterday and everyone (or at least many) thinks he is a superstar and worthy of Heisman mention. He will cost the sooners at least 1 loss the rest of the way because that is what he is as a QB. Sark has said it and it is true, take care of our business and we will be just fine. That includes fixing what yesterday revealed. For the first time in years, we have the horses, staff, and character to make the necessary corrections. We lost but with all due respect to MBHORNSFAN, even after yesterday, it is time to say WE DON'T!! Just my humble Kool-Aid-filled opinion.
HOOKEM!!

We’ve said the same thing after the 2021 OU game

One thing I haven't heard mentioned was the Jake Majors injury probably hurt us more than we think. A lot of the pressure QE got was from the inside. And maybe his presence would have helped in the failed goal line TD attempt.

0u did play better than we expected, but we also made mistakes that cost us the game. False starts, as well as the running into the kicker penalty cost us 3 points and/or field position.

One thing that stung a little was Peyton Bowen making plays. Weren't we in the running for him despite his crazy antics during the recruiting process?

Despite hating the loss, we were still in the game despite a lot of bad mistakes and turnovers. Hopefully this fires up the team to play harder for the rest of the season.
